Isn't 7:50.06 a new US Junior indoor record?
For anyone, Running a fast time is wonderful. To run a really fast time coupled with setting a record and winning the race is an achievement very few experience. scintillating... Fisher knows how to RACE!
Two MI runners (Brazier and now Fisher) have set Junior Indoor records this year. Michigan runners kicking butt! They both have all of this year and part of 2017 to improve upon their Junior records.

German Fernandez ran 7:47 at 18 years and about 3 months as a freshman at OSU. Also ran 3:55.02 completely solo at Big 12 a few weeks later. Then went 13:25 outdoors and led every step of the NCAA 1500m to win in 3:39.0.
For all the attention Fisher and Hunter have received the last couple years, Fernandez was even more of a pure talent.

In addition to being behind GF's time, Fisher's mark would not be considered for an indoor record (by IAAF or USATF) because it was on oversized track.
However, per the T&FN list, it is the fourth fastest American Junior 3000m ever, including outdoors. The three names ahead of him are Ryun, Rupp -- and GF.
Ryun, of course, also ran 1:44 as a Junior. Until and unless Fisher runs a fast 800m, I'm going to believe that his elite future is at the longer distances, not the 1500m/mile.

Colby Gilbert ran 7:49 last indoor season which I'm assuming is the school record for UW.

Exciting to see so many young mid distance and distance runners in US T&F.
Lots of guys around the 8 minute barrier in 3km as university Frosh and Hunter as HS senior.

He drafted almost the whole race and was ahead only the last 30 seconds or less. Still, fantastic job and he had a tough race there with a bunch of other guys very close at the end. Impressive stuff.
Would like to see Fisher in the Olympic trials 1500m this year.

Nice to see Fisher out-kick a 1:48.1 800m / 3:57.8 mile runner. Fisher ran in lane 2 for the entire first half of the race too. Anyone get any splits?

Wouldn't count as a record on the 307m track anyway. 7:50 is a great time though... let's not forget how incredible German's freshman year was.

Nice solid race for Grant.....just continue the gradual improvement.
They went through a mile at 4:17-4:19 and closed their last 1k in 2:30. Ran around 4:03 for the last mile.

It makes sense if you want to be able to use the infield for other purposes and don't have unlimited amounts of funds and acreage to build multiple indoor athletic facilities.
There's also no statistical support for 300m flat tracks actually being more advantageous than 200m banked tracks, but that's another argument.

Probably one of the worst calls of a track race I have ever heard.
But congrats to Grant for a great race - looking forward to seeing what he can do over the next several years.
