All I have to say is thank god we didn't get the games in Chicago. Could you imagine the albatross it would have been with what is happening in Illinois right now?

If anything, I think they 100% should have the game in Brazil. It will make people pay attnetion to the virus which is largely hurting the poor.
The virus is largely a non issue unless you are pregnant. So what's the big deal. IF you go down there, don't get knocked up. It's not really an issue for fans/athletes if they simply don't get pregnant.
It's a real issue for people in Brazil but cancelling the Olympics is not the way to go.
i assume non-pregnant people could still bring it home with them and transmit it to pregnant people they encounter...
L.A. could take it. The U.S. has taken on the World Cup hosting before on short notice and certainly could do it for the Olympics. In fact, that may be the only way short of bribes that we can get an Olympics. It is true that it would be hugely irresponsible to hold a far more global competition than the 2014 World Cup in Brazil this year. Remember that it was the World Cup that brought the virus to Brazil in the first place. Suddenly, Zika would be all over the warmer regions of the world.
DDT
I don't understand why they don't just genetically engineer some bad genes into this mosquito and then let them loose, they mate and pass the bad gene on, eventually killing the entire species. This particular species transmits Dengue and Chinkgunya as well, it really sucks!

That's a new role for the Olympics. Hold events in cesspools so that the poor can have a voice.
You may sort of know your track, but you certainly don't know viruses. You have merely scratched the surface of its side effects. And if you find that its transmittable upon return, by infected people, are you all for it then? Its not all smaller hat size.
And which Olympics made money for a country? If few, then spending money on water cleanliness and infrastructure is a better investment.

The problem if you did that to terrorists is not only would you exterminate all the Arabs but the Jews as well since they are the same identical race ;-)

Right. What could possibly go wrong?

It will be canceled not because of the virus but because the facilities will in NO way be ready.
The OG will have to be moved or they WILL be canceled.
Does anyone else think that holding the Olympics in Rio was a completely idiotic idea in the first place?
granted, this is so but in 2009 when it was announced, it didn't seem like the idea was that bad. In fact, it was quite good, many people thought.
bottom line: hopefully the powers that be have learned from their mistake and will put the 2016 games in Los Angeles.

The state has had no budget in over a year. 6.6B in new debt this year alone. Bankruptcies. The state is circling the drain. The Olympics would have been 10x the estimated cost and an unimaginable amount of new debt.
Hey! I found a way to blame Obama so I can post in this thread.
These Olympics should have been in held Chicago, but Obama was bragging that he would go to the Olympic committee and schmooz them and they would bow before his greatness and let Chicago have the games. The committee did not like his attitude and Chicago was quickly voted out.
So once again, it's ALL Obama's fault.
It's time to bring back DDT.

L.A. is ready, mostly. The only thing L.A. has to do is hire more Metro Rail staff for the games since the cars are virtually empty nowadays.
I heard it was released on purpose on GMOed mosquitoes. Something about Rockefeller foundation and the Gates families at all that. The idea is to release it somewhere like the Olympics where people from all over the world will be. They catch it and then spread it to their own countries. It's said to be transmitted by saliva too.
