Thanks for the kind words. We are a legitimate news organization. I'd ague we do a way better and much more honest form of journalism than what you find with MLB, NBA, etc as their the journalists nowadays are mainly tv guys and the networks all are afraid to do legitimate reporting as they don't want to piss of the leagues and jeopardize their contracts.

The only 'sewer' would be a tiny percentage of the messageboard posters. It amazes me that people can't differentiate between the messageboard and the front page.

I put Mary Cain in the thread title initially as that's what I figured people are most interested in. In all honesty, how anyone races in an xc race in October is largely unimportant. This race is only newsworthy as it potentially gives us insight into whether Cain is rebounding or continuing to regress.

The BAA didn't send out a press release saying Liz Costello was running their race. They did sent one out about Mary Cain.

Once the race was over, I put up Dunbar and Costello win on the front page.

The fact of the matter is people are interested in Cain. If Tom Brady got arrested at a brothel with three of his buddies, do you think the headline would mention the names of all 4 or simply Brady?

Cain is showing herself to be an employee of Nike - not a bonafide professional athlete. Professional athletes give interviews after competitions.

Nike employees don't have to explain themselves to anyone. She was probably scared to answer a legitimate question about whether the Salazar allegations played a role in her returning home.

I think its just the picture. If you look at the race clip she looks pretty lean. Anyway, did anyone actually want to talk about whether this is an encouraging or discouraging result?

good to see Dunbar healthy and running well, pretty sure that's an 8k PR for him.

Since you often link to the sewer from the front page, you'll have to forgive my confusion.

I'll give you Jonathan Gault as a journalist. He is the exception. You shouldn't confuse news gathering or blogging with journalism. Journalism requires ethics. Journalists do not publish articles with typos or draw lines through inaccurate information while leaving the inaccurate information to stand without explanation. I could go on but I think you can get the picture.

Oh, and sports talk radio is not journalism (which you seem to liken this board to). It's entertainment.

Your "reply" is likely why Mary has no interest in commenting on her running. She wants to move forward without the noise people like you bring to the sport. Noise that is just crap.

And she has no obligation to talk because the sport is "professional". It hardly is professional. Did any spectator pay to watch the meet in Franklin Park.

In open 5k a 13 year old girl is listed as 10th overall, in 16:59. Would have been 4th in Women's championship race, a few seconds back of Cain

I competed today at Franklin Park in the men's 8K. Not a great performance by myself but still a top 15 finish. But that is neither here or there. I was able to talk to Mary Cain and get a few pictures with her. She seemed extremely friendly and talked about enjoying the race and the day.

I am an avid Letsrun visitor and while sometimes things may seem unprofessional I would say that's largely due to individuals on the message board. I thoroughly enjoy the fact that we get a real "human" to talk to in Wejo and Rejo when they post on the message board. Let's be honest though, where do we get most of our information for the running world? Flotrack only covers selected athletes, events, and news. The majority of it I have to pay for. I get more information about athletes and events from letsrun compared to any other "news" outlet. ESPN, Bleacher Report, SC? They don't cover anything outside of a few athletes or events.

I would say if anything Cain was concerned about tough questions and while none of us truly know the inner workings of NOP and her situation, I'm sure Salazar doesn't feel extremely warm about her speaking with any outlets no matter how professional a group of message board posters feel it is.

Perhaps she declined to interview so the entitled and nosy creeps like you don't get to abuse and harass what she has to say.

Letsrun has the world's largest online running community. With her a pro now, I hope she had a good reason to decline Letsrun.
