My experience is that a 2nd DUI will get you jail time. Maybe 2 weeks maybe a month. And lots of other hassels, probably piss testing, DWI class, AA, etc.

I admire anyone that kicks a habit, but I have a question for you. Do you ever "recover from alcoholism"?
Please share your story for all the up and coming binge drinkers. Good luck to the Czar.
Czar...don't hide this from your friends and family. These are the people who can help you. Definitely look into some type of support group.

What really scares me is that I drive home when I'm drunk. I don't know why my friends don't take my keys, but they don't.
I hope you kill yourself before someone else. Maybe you should talk to someone who has had a family member killed by a stupid drunk before you ever get behind the wheel again. If this doesn't help, then you don't deserve to live.
f*** the police

Do you think that college athletes binge drink?
Ocho-Good Point, If you talk to most Alcoholics (I'm one) they will say that they are "recovering" Alcoholics and never actually completely recovered. I recently saw a guy with 20+ yeras of sobriety go back to drinking, and his life to shit. Alcoholics must maintain constant vigilance against that first sucker drink. Good luck to that original poster, find local A.A. meetings, good people, they always want to help the newcomer. Its one of the hardest things I've ever done, but definitely worth it.

On every campus in the country.
My impression is that coaches do very little to discourage the drinking. Some coaches even drink with the kids and tell stories of drinking in their younger days. This is very much over the line. If 5 deaths in Colorado don't open some eyes, nothing will work.

The more I think about it, the better this answer is.
You crave alcohol=alcoholic
I know a hundred former and current runners that are in your position. Let's see what you do about it.
There is an old saying that 1 is too much and 10 isn't enough.
1.Do you tell stories to hide the fact that you drink?
2. Do you hide booze?
3. Have you asked friends to cover your story?
4. Have you missed any work time or had to take a sick day as the result of your drinking?
When you decide to drink, make sure that you have given someone your keys before your first sip. If you don't do it before you get started, your decision making later might kill someone.
I'll pray for you.
Honestly, being an alcoholic is the least shameful flaw that someone can admit to. Big deal. Admit it to your family and friends.
I'd trade being an alchie for all the flaws that I've got.
You have to stay committed to staying off the road. Being in alcoholic is perfectly legal....
and stay then f*** off the road.
