11/19 seems a bit early. A lot of people run a fall marathon and normally have enough time to recover by the usual Nationals date. 11/19 would make that tougher to do. But then again, 11/19 may still get a better turnout than Thanksgiving weekend. There will never be any weekend that works for everyone. Too bad the weekend after Thanksgiving doesn't seem to be in the cards.
December could be a tricky time to try and race in Rochester, NY. I have been there twice in December to visit friends and both times my departure was delayed by snow storms. I would prefer The weekend of 11/19 but my club is in New England and would just deal if it was on turkey weekend.
What about running it the second weekend in December? Although there may be a few company parties missed, it would interfere less with other people's plans than either of the last two weekends in November.
We too would rahter have it the weekend before. It would be hard to travel thanksgiving weekend from the bay area.
My thoughts are having it thanksgiving weekend would be fine or move it to the first weekend of December. However moving it back the week before thanksgiving may conflict with other usatf association xc championships. As well as early December is when most athletes plan to peak for xc. I would keep it the date you have it or move it to December. That's my feedback.
This thread is ridiculous. Let us break this down.
2 choices
1. Thanksgiving weekend
2. The weekend before.
Any other suggestions just clutter the argument. It was said early that the first weekend in December is out. There is a conflict. So any suggestions for the first weekend are not presented by a logical human being. The weekend after is likely to have a foot of snow. So if you are happy with Thanksgiving say so. If you would like it the week before say so. If you would like it any other time, SHUT THE FUCK UP, IT CAN'T BE DONE.
Keep the meet on the weekend you have scheduled. It it's thanksgiving so what. Athletes need to plan ahead and get there priority's straight. Those with complaints are masters runners with families. Us open guys which is what the championship is designed for could care less if it's on thangsgiving weekend. Besides thanksgiving is on Thursday. Keep the meet just the way it is. Don't listen to these idiots. Besides its your meet and your decision on when to have it. Why are you even considering moving the date.
Gents:
As I mentioned in the original post, the 1st two weekends in Dec. are not an option.
The first weekend is the USATF Convention in Jacksonville. The second is a huge music conference in Rochester (4,000 + kids) so there are no hotel rooms available anywhere in downtown.
The second also presents significant travel problems due to the weather. It doesn't necessarily have to be snowing here, but it could be just about anywhere that time of year, preventing people from getting here. Even last year, NYC and NE athletes were unable to get to Greensboro because of an East Coast storm. The later you go in the calendar, the more probable that scenario can be.
FYI:
The NE Champs in '05 are scheduled for November 6 and I've talked to the Pacific Association about the possible change.
I'm a NE Club runner and the Saturday after Thanksgiving (the date that's been promoted) is much better for me. It's too bad that December is off the table, but the West Coast clubs will just have to deal with what GVH/USATF have decided. Obviously the Portland meet was also difficult or impossible for many East Coast runners to get to, even though it was held on a more convenient date.
Hey I don't read real well. How about the first week in December?
Your typical West Coast Idiot
Your troll detector must not be working, or you're pointing it the wrong way. You're the only one who isn't contributing to the disscussion here. Go back to (pick which ever is applicable) the crib/gay porn site/ugly girlfriend's bed/dyestat/backed-up septic system that you came from.
And don't respond to this. That'll only continue make an otherwise productive thread more contaminated with your garbage.
I am sorry. I somehow missed your preference.
1. Thanksgiving
2. The week before
Any other reccomendations are not contributing to the thread. I am sure that your preference was in there, I just missed it.
Personally, Thanksgiving weekend works pretty well for me. Eat with the fam on Thursday, travel Friday (not have to miss a day of work), run Saturday. I know it's not that easy for someone who lives far away (I'm about a 7 hr drive), but still, flying on that Friday and again Saturday night shouldn't be too bad. People who want to get in touch with family will travel Wednesday and Sunday for the most part.
I did want to mention, doesn't it seem a little messed up that the USATF would schedule a convention the same weekend as the biggest USATF event between September and February? I say if you guys really want to have the meet the next weekend you should petition the crap out of the USATF until they realize they pissed off a large part of their constituency and move the convention. For crying out loud, they should have known that weekend was the logical choice for Club Nats.
I say keep the meet exactly where you have it set. That weekend works fine for us. For those of you out in the west coast who don't like the date. As you say. SCREW YOU were going to kick your ass.
Thanksgiving weekend for nationals is awesome date. Honestly XC Nationals is always far to late in the season and it screws up your recovery time and preparation for the Real racing season (track). Good date you picked. Keep it just the way it is.
USATF did a poor job hosting the recent Club Nationals. They would seem to indicate by the scheduling of their convention date in December 2005 that they have relegated this meet to minor status. Do we really need them?
Thanksgiving is THE busiest holiday for travel. Given the family signifigance of this holiday, it seems crazy to believe that a group can earnestly hope to host this meet this particular weekend and have a comprehensive turn-out. The hassles of travel then are an unnecessary hurdle. We often have enough of a burden to overcome with our families in trying to show them that running is not our first priority.
I am hoping that this can somehow be changed to the first weekend in December. It might be edifying to hear from the USATF on this.
A masters runner.
Everyone needs to realize that there's more than one team WANTING to compete in this championship. The teams who aren't in the immeadiate driving area are going to have to struggle to get to this race. The travel prices are going to be ridiculously high, making west coast and midwest teams have to go broke sending out a team of 8. Even the big teams that race for the top 10 might not be able to financially send out the team.
Plus, many top competitiors might not be able to come due to family obligations. Many club members have started families or have long since had one. I know personally that a lot of the top guys on the Farm Team and Aggies are high school coaches and can't miss the California state meet which is the same weekend. This would overall jepordize the legitimacy of the meet making it a "less-than" championship.
I personally don't want to run in championship knowing that some of the best competitors aren't there because of a simple time conflict that could have been changed a year earlier. I don't mind beating a team because they have some top guys injured, but if they aren't there because of poor meet management, I wouldn't feel like I truly competed against the best.
Overall, I hope the meet can be on any other weekend before or after the thanksgiving holiday. It would cost too much for any team other than those close to the race location. It just seems logical to not have it on a holiday that every american family wants to celebrate.

Great Post. Anyone that reccomends the first week in December is an idiot and should not be considered. They obviously can't read.
