In all honesty, the interview makes sense. At 54, he should be doing more flexibility and strength. But having him swinging around like a fairy in tights just doesn't look good, especially after the Jenner thing.

Also. What's with his comment about music? I took that to mean that he NEVER listens to music. I get the "no music at the track" rule, obviously, but I inferred that he had some personal revulsion to music. Odd guy.

Also, for those of you who cannot get past the pay wall, he says he never liked running and never considered himself a runner. He was a "sprinter," not a runner.

He still has that sub 11- ability in his body. Like Michael Jordan still dunking the ball easily at his 50's.

Here's the thing: Almostt all women would take a guy with a nice body who does "sissy twirling" over a fat dude who does "manly" lifting.

He has the kind of physique women (and men) find attractive. The bulky bodybuilder look turns most women off. (gay dudes don't mind it though; but they tend to prefer sleek)

I don't think anyone is arguing with this. I do have to say, though, that my father is in his fifties and guys with decent fitness levels and good bodies are more common than you might think. Also, in this age group - actually, with men of any age - there is a point of diminishing return when it comes to bodies. At a certain point, too much emphasis on the body is a turn-off for women. Very few women want a man who is constantly worried about his physique or looks too precious. That is why dadbod is a real thing.

My dad runs about 5 miles a day and plays tennis all day long. He and my mother eat healthy and clean and drink in moderation nightly. They both look amazing for being nearly 60 (59 and 58). Most of their friends look good, too. They are upper middle class and retired, so it is easy for them to make time, so that needs to be considered.

My dad does not swing around on silks and he doesn't wear tights. He also doesn't have buckets of gold medals, hahahahahaha.

In my late fifties here, and look as fit as Carl, due to genetics, decent diet and lots of outdoor mountain sports. I look just like an average skinny guy in clothes though. No amount of PEDS would ever have gotten me a medal, I'm just a generalist. I have done well with age-group stuff though and could beat Carl at every age in events above 400m (he ran 2:10 at the Superstars competition back in his heydey). He probably never even jogged a mile.

James Lofton is the amazing dude. Still runs 58 for 400 at 59, holds lots of masters records, played NFL for years.

You're all missing the point. I look at those pics and see a very strong athlete. It takes strength and kinestetic awareness to do those workouts.
