R-pace, or rep pace, is a term used by Jack Daniels. A high schooler would only have heard of such a pace if he read the book. If they read the book, then they understand these are not sprints.

what's so bad about trying to educate kids who are getting interested in track?

There is nothing wrong with it. There is also nothing wrong with creating a thread saying that running consistently will lead to greater progress than running sporadically.
Both are fundamental training principals that are so obvious that they didn't need a thread.
Don't give this generation too much credit.
I have high school athletes that need to be TAUGHT how to run a strider.
Relaxed upper body, quick turnover, planting mid-foot under hips, good arm mechanics, etc etc.
A lot of running intuition that these kids SHOULD have built just by running around as a kid just isn't there with a lot of our athletes now.
Some kids can't run, jump, skip, etc. without having the skill taught to them, even though this should have been ingrained at a very young age naturally.
