Men's 5000m final: predict American finishes

Rupp is an all-star. A sub-13 sub-27 guy with an Olympic medal. He will eat True and Hill for lunch. True is a B-list plodder and I don't even know who Hill is.

Rupp was sandbagging at the trials, running just fast enough to make the team. This is the real deal now. To reiterate, Rupp will SLAUGHTER True and Hill.

You just admitted that you don't really know anything about track and field.

Hill is going to be out the back, as I bet the pace is going to be hot from the gun.

True over Rupp

Hill only has tricks up his sleeve for slow races.

I think it will be a 13:15 race this year after a mediocre attempt to wear out Farah.

Farah still wins, Kajelcha 2nd after getting run-down by Mo, then there's a bit of a gap to Ndiku in 3rd who fades as True nearly catches him.

Rupp is 20 times the runner that Ben True is Rupp will get either 2nd or 3rd True=non factor.

I disagree with just about everything Phantasy Star has posted in the past week, but I have to agree with him here.

There is no way True or Hill finishes higher than Rupp in this race.

Rupp will likely be 4th or 5th, with True and Hill somewhere around 9th-10th.

I'd go as far to say there is a better chance of Rupp finishing top-3 that either of the other Americans finishing top-5.

True? Really? This is his first EVER world champs.

The last lap of this race will likely be 52 seconds. The final 800m will be probably be 1:50. True is not going to be able to get to that gear.

Rupp hasn't shown great form. The 10000 the other day was very good. Hung tough for 25 laps of the 10 but had nothing.

In 2012 the year he ran just under 12:59, he was a non-factor 7th or so in the 5, following the 10. Has never placed high in an overseas 5K. Season's best of 13:12

7th place and behind True

True who has been running well and 6 seconds faster this year for 5K.

But you never know in these days and a saldbar-androsage might just be enough to put Rupp on the podium. But I doubt it.

Merga did not finish the 10k. Hard to see him placing 5th here. I doubt it was an instance of "eh I'm going to save myself for the 5k". He obviously started the race and things went south.

I could be wrong, maybe he had to poop, but I would bet money against him being top 5 in the 5k.
