Whatever the reasons for it, three guys going sub 44.00 in one race is remarkable, and coming in second with 43.65 is crazy, but it's kind of like when Noah Ngeny went 3:28 in the 1999 WCs and got second to El G's 3:27. Stuff like that doesn't happen often, but it is possible. Of course one could argue they were both dopers too...
I do think something is different this year, be it the track or a new something out there. There seem to be way more PRs and depth in almost every event this year.
Has the track been resurfaced since 2008? I guess there were some pretty remarkable times then too though...
A young talent and now at 23 or 24 breaks through. Drugs maybe, plausibility being clean same chance also.

I do agree that Johnson's record is one of the weaker ones. His 200 was considered untouchable, and multiple guys have beaten it now, with Bolt's 19.19 going into a 0.3 headwind (Johnson with a 0.4 tailwind). The 400 is probably weakest because 200/400 guys end up in the 200 and 400/800 guys end up in the 800. If someone of Bolt quality ran the 400, or if Jeremy Wariner had even lived up to his potential, the WR would be 42.x. With a Bolt-esque talent, it could be well into the 42.x.
The biggest red flag performance has to be Dibaba closing that 1500 in 1:56.9. With that happening, I don't know why anyone is bothering to bring up any other performance as suspicious.

These guys are overriding the body's pain receptors and it's allowing stuff like that to happen. Wade VN simply ran through the pain barrier and you see the results of it post-race - body chemistry catches up, heart gives a big "F-you" and you're on a stretcher.
Probably a combination of a stimulate to get you there and inhibitors to just keep it going.
Either way highly unlikely that this has been achieved in a legit way...
I was a national class 400 runner from 16 years old to the present day. I'm 47 and can run a 54. That was the dumbest thing I've ever read! I hate the 400m. It is a nightmare to pace yourself. If a sub 43 is so easy, why hasn't anyone gone for the millions of dollars that would be bestowed upon them done it?
