His initial big improvement came when coached by Alan Storey (coach to numerous World and Olympic champions), he had been training with Craig Mottrams amongst others through his early twenties and was training very hard (not the fairy story about him being a non training recreational runner), he was on an elite programme. He then moved in and lived full time with Micah Kogo and other elite Kenyans when Kogo was running world records on the road. Even then there was nothing to suggest this level of performance. Something changed when he went to America.
I'm not Simone just chipping in on this I've seen him race in the uk since he was 16, he was good and ran well at national level but he did not stand out as exceptional in a period of pretty poor uk distsnce running.

Reads like the PB's of a top-tier NCAA athlete, but just short of NCAA individual champion quality (although the quality of the NCAA wasn't quite as good in 2005 as it is now; you could possibly have been an NCAA champ at the time with those PB's).
Farah has PB's on Tilastopaja.org dating back to 1999, when he ran 8:21.25 as a 16-year old. So he'd had 6 years of training and competitive buildup to setting the list of above PB's.
You have to answer the next question based on what you think is physically possible within the sport. Is it possible for someone with Farah's athletic background to become a dominant global champion within 6 years through completely legitimate means?
Impossible to say for sure, barring a positive test. But if Farah is clean, it must be one of the latest instances ever of that kind of talent shining through.

The believe that post 2008 marked the start of an effective and well thought out multifaceted conditioning approach to develop some fitness qualities that his training was clearly deficient within up to that point. If he was super responsive to these 1% ers, then 1% becomes 2 or 3 %, and then you are cooking on gas.

Can you provide me other examples of world class athlete that went from very good in their mid 20s to world beaters in their late 20s/early 30s?
I believe that Carlos Lopes is one such example, but do you have others?

If I was coaching you from a young age, prescribing training that was just easy running and that is what we did for 10 years, gradually increasing the volume until you were in your late 20's. What do you think would then happen if we introduced intervals to your training at this point? Surely you would not improve because....well your in your late 20's!

It's intervals AND someone showing him how to bench press.
Two 1 % improvements. So that translates directly to 1+1% = 2% improvement on the track.
Actually I think someone showed him squats in the gym, so let's call that 1.5% improvement from getting a gym pass.
So now we have a direct improvement 1+1.5=2.5% improvement on track.
which is exactly how much his 10000m and 1500m times improved after he hit 28.

Out of interest where on you black and white spectrum would you place the following:
Access to superior facilities
Superior support team with knowledge of legal supplementation, conditioning programmes and fatigue markers.
How much do people here think coaching matters at the high end? That seems to be what this conversion is boiling down to. If access to PEDs comes with the coach, then presumably the coach matters a lot but what if we only concern ourselves with clean athletes/coaches. How much then does the choice of coach contribute to an athletes times: 0%, 0.1%, 1%, 3%, ...? Seriously, I'm curious.
