Part of training is to get used to running in all kinds of weather conditions. Since running is mostly an outdoor sport, you will probably encounter all kinds of weather running races. It may be hot, it may be cold, it may be windy, it may be rainy. If you train in those conditions you will be used to running in them. Also, if you live in an area that frequently has less-than-perfect weather and you wait for the perfect weather to run you may end up running half the time if that.
I used to go out in the rain all the time but it doesn't rain in CA any more.
More so when we do get sprinkles (it happens once a year) only about 10-20% of kids come to practice. Same goes for when it's hot or cold or they have a lot of homework.
But ya, real runners don't run in the rain because they don't have to. It's the lower tier talent that needs the "advantage."
Kenyans don't run in the rain but thats because their immune systems are compromised from their poor diets and running so much. In fact they're deathly afraid of getting chills, respiratory infections, even malaria secondary to running in the rain. Somehow, avoiding rain hasn't hurt their training or race results.
I gave in to all of you and ran in the rain yesterday, and now I have a serious case of the sniffles. Even worse, my average pace was 14 seconds per mile slower than my usual runs in the morning in optimal temperatures. So I think this rain run made me worse because my normal pace was compromised and I got sick from it. Ugh. Unless anyone has a strong argument I'm never running in the rain again.
I ran in the rain one time and died. 0/10 would not recommend.

Warm weather, running in rain=awesome.
Cold weather, running in rain=not awesome.
God never lets rain drops fall on real runners.
Of course, there's more oxygen in the air from all the water (H20). It's a proven scientific fact!
Real runners don't really run in any weather. Being a runner is more of a metaphysical experience.

Gotta man up and push through it. I did a workout last fall: 16x500 with 1:30 rest and it started raining on the 5th one and then starting hailing on the 15th...and we kept going and finished it, and ran the last 2 faster than all of the rest. Rain runs feel so good too, it's so refreshing. If you're worrying about getting a cold, you gotta get a better training mindset and take it more seriously.

I "man[ned] up and push[ed]" through a 14 mile tempo in the cold rain once. I had a fever by that evening, was debilitatingly sick for the following 6 weeks, and didn't regain shape until 8 months later.
Rain will increase your chances of sickness or injury.

Think of it as a form of resistance training, like training at altitude or uphill. Because of the resistance you're going to run slower. But in the end, the resistance helps you overall. When it rains, humidity goes way up. The water molecules in the air make it harder for you to extract oxygen so you generally run slower. It must be nice to live in a climate where you can actually choose NOT TO run in certain weather.
