My first 10K was around 50 minutes. Inspired by that experience I joined my university cross-country/track team
Freshman year -track around 18:30 for 5K
Sophomore year - around 30:00 for 8K cross-country
Junior year- total disaster- unmentionable times
senior year- got down to 16:50 for 5K low 36's for 10
After senior year decided to stop pretending to be serious and actually make a commitment to being the best I could be. Started running consistent 70+ weeks. I ran with the local road star a few days a week and with a group of the local studs every Sunday. They blew me away almost every week. But I didn't give up. The fall after I graduated I ran high 33's. The next spring I ran in the low 33's. Eventually went on to run 15:18
19:59 for 4 miles 25:20 for 5 and 32:10 for 10K. I was a runner with no obvious talent in the beginning but went on to run some times that were very satisfying and to win a few good sized races.
