I mean they are not a highly in demand marquee matchup like Coe and Ovett or Tirunesh or Genzebe Dibaba in a race with Defar.

they are 2 young runners, but they have not done anything special at the Professional level, they would have been a marquee matchup at the high School level in the USA, They have no marquee value in Belgium or at the Professional level yet, they do have potential and hopefully will be top runners someday.

you may be right, but you may also be ignoring how alberto salazar works - he wants his club to be the most elite of the elite, and if he doesn't even have the best junior girl miler...that's not really what he wants. If he can keep cain from losing to alexa in a race he doesn't have to deal with that.

plus there is the psychological aspect - maybe one of the coaches just doesn't want his athlete to lose to the other, for psych reasons.

Alexa easily beat her teammate who has already run 2:00, FWIW

Efraimson did just run the 1500m and Cain is a 1500m runner, but I do think that Salazar would want to keep them in separate races. His runners race each other rarely, unless they have to because it is their best event. Efraimson might go sub 2 if she got into a fast race. However, it seems to be difficult to get her into a fast race without that credential. I am pleased to see Cain running 4:09 here. That's good progress. 4:04's still a ways off and I have no idea what her training has been like but it would be great if she got back there this year and so had reason for optimism for next year.

Does anyone have a link for videos of these races? It'd be fun to see them.

Way too many runners in the w1500 so not surprising 5-6 took each other out.

If Schneider gets the WC qualifier by August 9th and Johnson doesn't, Schneider goes to Beijing.

Maybe a little quid pro quo. Rabbit race A and we'll get you into Race B. Maybe a race of her liking?

I agree that it doesn't look like they're dodging each other and just happen to be in different races. And if anyone was dodging anyone here, it'd be Efraimson dodging Cain since Cain was in the more competitive event with a bunch of Americans.

I'm not saying Salazar doesn't ever have his athletes dodge competition, but this doesn't strike me as one of those times.

Figures that is one of the races there isn't a video replay for. The 800 and some others are on YouTube, but can't find the women's 1500:
