https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhDxzvG2RrAAs a 12 year old boy Jacob ran 70 km/week, this winter he averaged about 90 km/week. As someone mentioned, the Ingebrigtsens believe in interval training. They run a lot on their treadmills. Jacob does several workouts of aquajogg during winter training.
After he ran 8:25 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etg-HuXoa9k), he said that in an optimal race he could come close to 8:10. You see in the video that he's cruising into 8:25.

For interest sake, Steve Cram ran the following:
14: 4:13.9
15: 4:07.2
16: 3:47.7
17: 3:40.09 + 3:57.43 mile
18: 3:42.5 + 3:57.03 mile
19: 3:34.74 + 3:53.8 mile
He ran there in the Fall of 2010, only ran a few races and DNFed at Big 12s if i recall. It wasn't a good fit. The coach wasn't great for what he needed, or at all for that matter. Heard they changed the entire team's training to fit Henrik's. Losing him was the last straw with Henry.
I don't believe any family has had three sub-4 milers (including even father). To have three and potentially more would be pretty phenomenal.

He also had a pretty bad long lasting and serious virus of some sorts and everyone was surprised when he managed to run 3.39 that year at Bislett Games.
That was before he got to A&M. He dealt with some leg injury of some sort at A&M. Knew before Christmas that he wasn't coming back.
He got 16th at Chile Pepper with a 30:00.69 and dropped out before mile 2 at big 12s

Yup, the writing is on the wall for this shooting star. Ok, so he got a bunch of records and medals, but ok, so now after this last record that's it. He's peaked. No more records. No more medals. I'll revise soon if necessary.
