Just a guess, but I say if they break away and have clear 1-2 position, Chez lets off the gas a little and gives the title to his buddy.

If I was Soratos I would've done literally anything but what he did.
He could have decided to take it out in 3:53-55 pace and tried to hold on as long as possible. Ches is tired, it might work, and if you lose you can go home knowing you gave it an honest shot.
But the pace was slow, you're in perfect position on the leaders' shoulder, Ches is boxed directly to the side of you where you can keep an eye on him. And 600m in Soratos thinks taking the lead and dropping a 53 is a good choice? It was like watching a high school freshman run his first ever mile. A 57 would have served the same purpose and strung out the field, then he just needs to hope he can somehow outkick Ches. If Soratos can run a 53 in the middle of the race he can probably run a 51 at the end of the race when it actually counts and where it might have actually given Ches a run for him money.
Instead his inexperience shows and he gets outclassed in the last 200, let's see what Ches can bring back for the 3k.
Oregon really racked up some good points already. I don't know what Florida has left so I have to ask: will Oregon even run cheserek in the 3k?

I admire Saratos for what he did. If it wasn't for a once in a lifetime freak of nature that is possibly post-collegiate age, we'd be talking about how Saratos CRUSHED the field like a BOSS.

I disagree. If he waits to try and drop a 57, all the rest of the field comes into play and then you have other people who can kick or (more likely) other people who can trip / impede, etc. I don't know that this was his best shot necessarily, but I don't think it was outlandish to give it a go, and I am not convinced that leaving it to the last 400 helped him significantly. Maybe he loses by a smaller margin. Cheserek is just a boss. That's how it is sometimes in life

Women's 800 is starting. I'm rooting for Goule since her coach made her read our LRC preview as we pointed out she's running better than she was in 2013 when she won NCAAs.

Yeah, but he's going to be American as a pro, so he doesn't have to be able to compete with those guys. he just needs to be the best American to make a living...a la Ryan Hill. He isn't relevant internationally and he does ok for himself.
That women's 800 was awesome. Goule gets the meet record by going 56.63 - 65.01!!! Williams and Green both blew up trying to go with her.

Looking back at the woman's 400m; is there a case for Watson being dq'd for cutting off Little without a full stride lead? The move definitely cost Little in the race. The 8 points would be a massive loss for arkansas in the team race.

Yeah he might want to 'give it to him' as Ches might be tired from that mile. I imagine if they raced ches would win but Jenkins is fresh so I wouldn't rule out him beating Ches.

Soratos was probably asking himself the same question at the end of the race. Soratos dropped a 53.43 400 split in the middle of the race and Cheserek didn’t even flinch -- and still closed the race in 28.26 seconds!
Barring the introduction of another Cheserek-type freak of nature over the next two years, there are only two ways he loses another NCAA championship: he’s hurt, or he’s tired (from attempting some sort of ridiculous 1500-5k-10k triple). So far, the only NCAA championship race Cheserek has lost came in a 13:18 race against a guy with PRs of 3:33/13:00. Unless you can produce another runner with the same PRs (good luck -- Lawi Lalang is the only guy in NCAA history who has run that fast), how in the world does anyone beat Cheserek?

Quick Take #1: Leah O’Connor is a stud
Was this the most impressive women’s mile performance in NCAA history? Jenny Simpson’s 4:25.91 probably tops it (though Simpson did it at Big 12s rather than NCAAs, she still did it completely solo in an unrabbitted race, taking down NCAA legend Sally Kipyego in the process.
O’Connor’s race has to be #2, though.
