Wrongful apparel.
For people who are dying to be asked, "Gee, did you run the Boston Marathon?" Probably the same d bags who wear their finisher's medal home on the flight two days after the race.
Looks great to me!
agree with the captive audience idea
adidas knows they will sell thousands...
but i'm surprised they ignored all the criticism they got last year about the color and design of the jacket
i don't get the stripes across the top of the back... a weird and f'ugly design element

You want a cookie?
These official jackets are ridiculously poorly made. I have the 2008 official Boston Marathon jacket, and by 2010, with maybe a couple dozen wears, every single pocket had split at the seams. It was really annoying to go for a run with a key in my pocket and have it stuck somewhere inside the lining when I got home.

Who cares how ugly the jacket is, Boston Marathon runners will buy it so everyone they see or meet knows they ran Boston.
Going to church? Wear your Boston jacket.
Kid running 5k? Wear your Boston jacket.
Funeral? Wear your Boston jacket.
Going to get groceries? Wear your Boston jacket.
-2 degrees outside? Wear your Boston jacket (with your real warm jacket underneath it)
I ran Boston in 2013, got the jacket and it is great. I wear it on my morning runs in Michigan (-14 windchill today) with a long sleeved shirt underneath and it keeps me plenty warm. I run at 5:30am so no one sees it except my partner.
It is probably one of the nicer running jackets I have ever owned. I am thrilled with the purchase. I also have a decent job so I did not care about spending the hundred bucks while on vacation. FWIW, I am a more impressive runner than you; I went 15:35/1:12:02/2:35:50 this year as a 40 year-old. That means my opinion counts more than yours, so please don't bother to respond.
Holy shit Adidas ripped off the Bo Jackson colorway from Nike.
I hate the 2015 design. Just hideous. I am running Boston for the first time and I will not buy any of that garbage. I have a perfectly fine 2009 blue and yellow jacket I picked up on clearance at Ross for $15 a number of years ago.
It looks fine to me. I love the people that are like, "BAA should keep the same jackets every year! Sure, they'll sell less, but..." Do you understand how a business works?
Also, I'm running for the first time had no idea it wasn't free. Bummer, I've run other races that gave a decent jacket as part of the entry fee.

A commemorative shirt will be in your race packet. Have fun. Go easy on the downhills from Hopkinton to Framingham or your quads will be shredded before you get to Boston College.
Jesus christ people, what do you want it to look like? A boring jacket that's the same every year? And I second the guy who asked if people here know how a business works. They're trying to make money (and they will), not satisfy whatever jacket requirements you have.
If you don't want a jacket, don't buy one.
And to the guy that bought a 2009 jacket without running the race, shame on you. Big faux pas.

Jacket should be BAA yellow with BAA blue stripes/accents.
Want to change it up every now and then? Invert the color to BAA blue with BAA yellow stripes/accents.
Boston has the most recognizable running jacket I've seen. You can spot one a qtr mile away. Colors should be classic and consistent (like the race), just change the text to reflect the year.
"Should"?
LOL. Dumb.
Changing up the jacket means repeat sales, which the BAA makes on repeat Boston runners.
Does purple really appeal to most guys? I tend to avoid wearing purple or pink because I don't want to get beat up. The long sleeve shirts we get with our packets are always some combination of yellow and blue, correct? I've run the race twice now and always spend so much money on the trip, I only live 3 hours driving distance from Boston. But with hotel costs, parking tickets trying to get into the expo, gas, I haven't yet bought anything at the expo besides a quick bite to eat. Always a fun time tough, extremely well organized, just a good spirit around Boston during those days.

Not only in the US, also in their home market (Germany). Their problem is that they catered too much to the booming markets from a couple of years ago (Russia, ...). The problem is those markets have terrible taste so they were able to get away with it. But fashion conscious markets like North America suffered during that time. It seems like now it's too late.
They need to hire some of Nike's fashion designers ASAP.
I like it. It will go well with my Fudge Packer 5k marathon participation shirt.
disappointing how many homophobic responses their are. i love this jacket. it's incredibly cool to me and am actually bummed i wont be participating this year. regardless purple is a great color. a shame people are too biased in their ignorance to look at a color and associate something else with it. i always thought runners were more open-minded. guess i was wrong.
they ought to offer multiple colors each year. How hard would it be to say have half the jackets be purple and the other half of the jackets be blue and yellow. Better yet, have 5 or 6 options. They're made in a third world country for pennies. I'm willing to work as a fashion consultant, Adidas.
Only hobby joggers care about the "Boston jacket".
