Grant Fisher commits to Stanford

IS Grant FISHER GETTING A PHD?????????STANFRAUD is the best choice for a student athlete. Period. It is a GOOD running program and a short list of the best undergrad and grad institutions. Have any of you people ever visited Stanford? It's heaven on earth. Who the f wants to go school in New Jersey? Last time I checked G Fish doesn't have a blow out.

So it depends on the degree you are looking for, but CU does have some very competitive academic programs.

I know CU is no Stanford and I have no beef with a kid (even my own son) with choosing Stanford over any of these schools. I only wanted to point out that people quickly overlook Colorado because of the the perception of the city.

the money question is huge - If Grant's family has money, he might have to pay as much as $240k to go to in Ivy like Princeton. Or, he goes to Stanford for, I assume, free.

Pretty easy decision, no?

And it's not like Stanford has a terrible program - they underperform massively every year, but they make it to nationals and have good resources.

Stanford really should get virtually all the top distance recruits from upper middle class families - who knows, maybe they do.

If Grant was serious about running, he would buy a one-way ticket to Iten, Kenya.

I was pointing out that CU does not suck at academics. CU gets a negative connotation because of the cities atmosphere. Too many kids that are good students seem to want to write of CU due to misinformation.

I hope my point is clear and I will stop hijacking this thread celebrating the choice (a good one) of a highly talented young man.

The problem with your argument is not that you are wrong but that too many people hold berealbro's opinion. The same people that quickly overlook Colorado as a school, overlook Colorado graduates against Mich and Wisc grads when hiring.

So very true. But just think... Smart person with the drive to work towards his goals and beyond. Wonder what pile a corporate recruiter would put such a person who also is a Stanford grad? On second thought, wonder what caliber of chick those credentials enable? Now we be talkin!

geez - it depends what job you want. If you want to be an investment banker or go to a top law school, your odds are better from a top 10 college. i doubt Goldman recruits much at the Univ of Colorado.

On the other hand, many huge corporations actively search for high performers at big state schools like Colorado and Oregon to avoid the prima donnas at the ivies and stanford because those kids will likely just move on, and will want too much responsibility too soon.

What? CU is not ranked above Hopkins in medicine. Attached is the IM rankings. I believe CU is ranked in family med but please stop with the CU is a better med school than Hopkins.

My bad I had clicked on a certain type of medicine which clearly isn't Hopkins strength nor CU's

In this area they are indeed above Hopkins.

Agip... Okay, you are correct in that a persons personality does come into play in the corporate recruiting process. To my second point there is no comparison to the dope smoking CO chicks that put on extra weight over a long CO winter, hairy armpit granola OR chicks, versus Stanford chicks. Or the caliber of all the other university chicks that want a Stanford grad.

Grant isn't going to be a good college xc runner. His form isn't very economical. He needs to stick with the 1500 and 800 in college. Great runner and talent but not a 5k and 10k college guy.

Nobody is biased against colorado because of the city. They are biased against it because it is a mediocre school.
