This Hacker seemed to arrive very suddenly on the scene with the two 2nd's. Any bets that this kid will be a major force on the American college circuit in the next few years?

This Hacker should be a collegiate force IF he can stay healthy, which, along with oodles of talent, was a problem for his relatives.

To you, yes. He probably suddenly arrived on the scene just recently. But that's because the social media pundits out there dropped the ball on Wisconsin this fall even though we've been vocal about our studs for the past two years! They were more focused on copying each other's lists than looking at the bigger overall picture.

Despite Olin's 4:08y last spring, many of the online "rankers" balked at his 9:14 3200 meter time from the end of that season. I understand, black and white, he only ran 9:14. But, when you factor in the circumstances such as it was the last event on Day 2 of the state meet after a rain delay, then there you have it. It was a tactical race. Hardly anyone was fresh and he exploded the last lap to get the W over another highly touted runner Ryan Nameth of Verona Area HS. Nameth was 24th at NXN and 11th at Footlocker Midwest. Nameth was a 4:20/9:15 guy as a junior. Both of his PRs are probably a little bit on the weak side compared to his actual ability. I predict a 4:11/8:58 spring for Nameth. Olin's not going to challenge Verzbicas or Fernandez times but can we see a 4:03-04/8:46-8:50. Perhaps if all goes well! Bottom line: He's a very good runner.

What I will insert into the conversation is the legendary Menomonee Falls North Coach Bob Rymer seeing the blaze already last year and making a comparison to the phenom he coached many years ago:

"It was like watching Tim all over again. It was something else. In some ways, he has a little bit better stride than Tim. His knees don't come up as high. In many ways, it's just about perfect. You should have seen him on that last, long uphill (at the Ridges Golf Course layout), when he just put the hammer down."

That 9:14 was 4:48-4:26 with a 66-61 close that was about 33-28 on the last lap.

Kelly Delaney went to Madison Edgewood HS. He was a walk-on story. Although, I don't think anyone doubted that he had ability in high school but he experienced issues running his best when it counted most. He ran low 16s as a junior and mid-to-low 4:20s before leaving HS. Was a scorer on multiple occasions during the glory years!

Yes, those are all high school times. Prestigious family club filled with sub-4:20s and cross country accolades.

just to make it clear, I think that he is going to be a major force.

Delaney was a 9:36 3200 meter runner. Went on to be a cross country All American on a national championship Badger team. A great walk-on story.

Not as many as there would have been if FLO and Milesplit weren't so biased about the East and West Coast kids. Everybody that follows HS distance running in the Midwest has known about this Olin since he finished 2nd at the Griak meet in 2013. He is not new on the scene.

Randy Berndt, this to be the same guy. Here is the story of his sudden passing. Bummer!

I remember him as a very solid runner but this was a long time ago.. Went back and found a link to NCAA preview in which Martin Smith said he started as a walk-on.....

The obit linked by ?????????? says that this Randy Berndt attended Breckenridge, MN public schools, NDSU and I think Mankato (MSUM).
