Some districts have a cutoff of Sept. 30 — the date before the law change; others require kids to be 5 by Aug. 1. Districts are about evenly split on the date."
The kid finished 22nd, running 16:22. Not bad at all for an 8th grader. I noticed a couple of freshmen finished ahead of him with some impressive times for their age. That course is a legit 5k, btw.

SPAC is not 2.93 miles. It is either 3.04 or 3.05 depending on who you ask. The 15:41 is a class record for the course by 7-8 seconds I believe.
Tindale also holds the state class record at Bowdoin Park with a 16:53 and he'll have another chance to improve that if he runs at NXR.
In Florida, a 7th grade girl won her division at the state meet. Tsion Yared ran a season best of 18:08 at FSU earlier in the year.

I have a niece who turned 14 in the summer and one of her xc teammates will be 16 by the end of the year! Both are in the 9th grade.
Interesting battle in New York between Noah Tindale of Guilderland and Sam Affolder of Carthage. Affolder recently broke the 8th grade state record in the 800 in a time of 1:57, only to be re-set by Tindale weeks later with a blistering 1:56. Tindale just broke the 8th grade state record in the 1600 as well with a time of 4:22, while Affolder has run a close time of 4:24. What's next for these guys? They still have four years left and are running outstanding times for their ages.
This is like asking "who's fart smells worse?"
I would like to see what Tindale could run in a 1600 that was a bit more set up for him. The results make it seem a like he had a good race, but he was doing all the work. He had gapped the field early on in a not too blistering pace, right around 2:13 at the half, and was caught with about 250 to go in the race, with the rest of the field closing with a very fast last lap. I think he has the ability to go sub 4:20, and also go at least sub 9:30 in the 3200 if he is fresh, runs smart, and pushes hard. I also love the fact that Sam Affolder decided to tweet out that he was 8th grade US #1 in the mile and 1600 after Tindale's mile record, but before it had been reported. The irony; especially he could've tweeted that at any point for the previous while.

Insane race. First 400 relaxed, then just a slow build to an insane finish with Tin and Maazin (Ma-ZIN). Tindale only won by .01.... in two years though: look out for Maazin Ahmed over Tindale. A year older yes, but goes to a school which is usually considered a joke in the area for distance runners. Guilderland on the other hand has a very strong program at the moment, with Noah Carey as well, and next year might there be a younger Tindale??? Tindale's still got the speed for a faster mile, too, since he anchored Guilderland later on the 'w' with a 50.x or 51.x.

Yeah you were likely the among the youngest in your grade. Not sure how old you are now, but most of your friends probably turned 21 (and could legally drink) during their Junior year in college. You likely had to wait until the beginning of your Senior year to get rid of your fake ID.
Late November B Day here, in Illinois. Was 17 when I graduated high school and started college. Youngest of 5 so my parents just wanted me out of the house as quickly as possible. 5:01 as a young 8th grader.
Elliot Mcarthur (8th grader) from Mounds View HS in Minnesota ran a 4:22 in the 1600 and a 9:34 in the 3200 this spring. He was the 6th runner on the NXN qualifying team last fall. Like in the 3200, he now has the fastest nonsenior (2nd fastest overall) 1600 time of the season at Mounds View High.
I ran a 4:28 1500 at age 13, guess my college 1500 PR

Just about to say look out for this kid... I run in his section, and for true team he took 3rd to two runners who ran 4:15 and 4:17 he ran a 4:22 and he had a great cross country campaign and he’s easily the fastest I’ve ever seen a kid his age, I’m in 9th grade btw
Don’t know how much faster he’s going to get as he likes like your typical 5” 8-10 fast sophomore or junior, I think he’s already very mature but wouldn’t be surprised if he keeps cutting Time

Sorry also forgot to add, there coach was talking with my dad and he said he has done no speedwork with him to make sure he doesn’t burn out. 4:22 as an 8th grader with no speed work.
Some nice talents mentioned in this thread.
Here in MI, we have a kid (Hunter Jones) who has gone sub-10 for 3200m and another who is certainly capable.
The “other” is Braydon Honsinger who went 4:35 indoors and has gone 10:18 so far outdoors in what looked like a jog. He has also split 54/2:05 when chasing kids down as an anchor. That’s just from what I’ve seem and I’ve only coached at 2 meets he has attended.
All-out, Honsinger will likely go 4:30/9:50 range of put into a race that requires it.
