I'm 26, no phone, no savings, no 9-5 job

how would that get op a g/f and a job?

what did you major in and what were you grades? very very few engineers/science/math majors with good grades can't find jobs.

Yeah, you're sort of living off the grid but you still have someone supporting you. Sounds like right now you need that.

Years ago I went off the grid quitting my job, living on the cheap ( I shared a house and paid rent ) and mostly running and reading. Long before the internet. It puzzled many of my friends but I loved it. Work had run me into the ground and I needed a break but I always knew I would go back to work and I did.

I liked it so much I took two more similar periods off until I met my wife at age 34. Then I started my work career.

I'm retired now and writing books and hanging out. It's sort of similar to those long ago breaks excerpt I'm older and I have money.

I majored in political science. I totally spaced it on that comment. Yeah you're right, if you majored in math/engineering or anything technical then you are usually going to end up pretty good.

MWhat I should have said is "everybody who didn't major in soft science". Most of my peers who majored in soft sciences, the arts or humanities have pretty tumultuous lives in terms of finances/stability. Some still in school pursuing a phd. Which means they are never leaving college. Others went out into the real world. If they didn't sell out like me then there is lots of moving around, sleeping on couches, moving cities every other year,bouts of unemployment, staying with parents etc. One of the art folks is doing alright though. I mean he's broke but he's made some waves in the art world. He did an art exhibit where there was just a fridge full of vials of his spunk. The idea was for patrons to take a vial home with them to do as they pleased with it. The art school shut it down, it made the news.

priorities wrong. first on list your age, so? 2nd on list, phone. Seriously? Go get a job, then start working toward something better!!! You are able to get on the internet. the world is yours.

Good for you for turning things around. At this point, you need to develop a network. Find some volunteer work. It doesn't matter what it is but make sure that you have somewhere to go and something to do every single day.

run every morning before you go do your volunteer work. find local runners to train with.

After 6 months or so of this type of routine, you should know enough people to be able to get you some part time work and save some cash. It also might help you figure out what your next move is.

Everything. I preferred opiates, but didn't discriminate. I've been clean almost 23 months now, having spoiled most of my relationships and opportunities. As for still affecting me, one could certainly argue a residual (whether inter-relational, neurochemical, behavioral, etc.) I continue to struggle with daily interactions with others, and attaining and maintaining a steady job is a monumental struggle for me. Cliche it may be, but McDonalds is always hiring. Hell, if you speak Spanish, work at Chipotle and you'll be a manager and make six figures in a few years.

It's not that people can't find jobs, it's that people don't WANT the jobs they can get. Minimum wage sucks, but it sounds like you have free rent and a chance to build up some savings and move out on your own.

What's your 5k time? That is all that really matters.

The hardest part is getting started. You wake up late when you planned to do something then the same thing happens the next day. Then you rationalize that you will miss an opportunity by going for a minimum wage job. Doing a little bit is always better than doing nothing. It's hard not to look back on wasted time but the more you look back the more time you're wasting. Go for a couple part time jobs then see where you are in a few months. I had many different jobs in the few years since college. Just walk into a place and ask if they need help even if there is no sign. I've gotten a couple jobs that way.also Craigslist is good too. What state do you live in btw?

Dude. Keep sponging of your aunt. You got it made, just like my brother, who moved back in with my parents to "write a book." I'm jealous, cause the real world tends to suck. You end up working and stressing and losing valuable training time while you are at the office, all so you can pay more and more in taxes to support freeloaders. It's an awesome system we developed here. Take advantage of it while you can

No. Just don't let 26 turn into 36, 46, etc. Keep running. Don't use. A job, 9 to 5 or not, is a good idea, especially if you like it. Enjoy life man. At 26, it's all out there in front of you and believe it or not, you have a lot to say about where you go from here.

I work for a major SEC school in Athletics centered around marketing. I happen to have my undergraduate degree and my masters in marketing. I am 25 and currently get paid around $500 every two weeks (taxes taken out). I think it is highway robbery that I am getting paid as little as I am. I also do not receive benefits. My rent is around 600 a month not including phone and utilities. I am fortunate that my parents are covering health and auto insurance but I have to start paying student loans in December....

Although this is my first year working in this field I am fortunate to have the job... it was a very competitive position given the school and the athletic program. I just can't believe how little they are paying employees nowadays...
