All droogs prefer Ludwig Van whilst performing the old in-out.
Out of your league OP. He probably looks down on you and secretly laughed when you said "Katy Perry is my all-time fave". Expect to be dumped for a more intellectual upgrade soon.
Thank you for this very smart post. KIDDING about "smart", but I do enjoy what you have written here. Frankly, it is DUMB to let yourself be taken and dictated to by mass media. Follow your heart. And Bach's Mass In B Minor is the greatest piece of music ever conceived, ok?

that the smarter you get the less your life is shaped by what's playing on the TV or radio today. The less your life is shaped by trends, fads and what corporate music promotes the more you understand why you like certain music. The more you understand what you like the more you search for a type of music that is well...music to your ear. The more you search the more you find. Do you have to be smart to search for music? Not in the sense you use it. Just normal intelligence to see there is some other music out there and enough desire to please your self to overcome inertia.
I do not know a non-Brazilian who did not find Samba de Gafieira carioca before they settled on Sertanejo as the sound of Brazil. Well the older ones found Astrud Gilberto and the jazzy Bossa nova then the Samba and then ... which kind of brings my thought full circle.
The more you explore beyond what you are fed the more valid the choice of liking what your fed.
Spend more time finding out what you like than trying to find why he plays classical music. May I suggest that a good way to start is talking to your new boyfriend about why he likes that music. Maybe you'll sway him from playing Bolero every time... or force him to play it for the first time ;)
Oh and "classical music" is such a broad term it's not very descriptive or helpful.
Not even close, you pretentious narcissistic prick.

Seems a bit harsh. The Bach B Minor mass is pretty darn amazing. Is it "the greatest piece of music ever conceived"? For me personally [with my own limited knowledge of music in all its many forms] it might just be.
Then again, nothing in the B Minor mass amuses me as much as vintage Joan Jett...
Does he wear unsexy knee length shorts?
Welcome to the New American Hipster®. Just wait until he pulls out an Edison cylinder of an obscure Gregorian farm troupe.

I love Mass in B Minor! I have the version conducts by Neville Mariner (I think, at least).
What's wrong with classical music, people? There is good music in all genres.
Can't tell if the OP is serious or not, but liking classical music doesn't make you smarter or not. But, for some reason, I would say there is at least a correlation between intelligence and listening to classical music, don't ask me why.

I actually agree with this as I'm very smart but totally not into the mainstream. Mainstream culture is created for average folk. Not for people like me.

I agree with this, too.
ich steh mit einem Fuss im Grabe
Now we're talking serious Bach!

Excellent literary reference. Unfortunately, 99 percent of the dopes on this message board have no idea to what you're alluding. Now, post a pic of a lass with horrorshow groodies and they'd be all over it.

There are a lot of dumb-as-dirt thugs who only listen to non-mainstream, underground rap and hip hop. There are also a lot of stoned, unemployable hippies who only listen to non-mainstream, grassroots bands. Point being, not sure what being "very smart" has to do with how mainstream the music is they listen to.

Not trying to be mean, but this one is pretty obvious to anyone high school boy who can crack a book (or put on a dvd, for that matter).

Do you really think that 1% of the dopes here will get that reference? And how about the rest of us?
The question is if he understands what he's listening to or not. I know plenty of people who put on classical because it helps them concentrate or puts them in a relaxing mood. If he has developed ears and is actually taking in all of the texture, harmonies, rhythms, etc. then he really likes the music and you shouldn't pass over him for that fact. There are lots of ways to listen to music (passive, active, analytic), but the point is to find a way that works for you with music you like to listen to and enjoy. I listen to classical nearly all of the time, but if I'm out mowing my lawn, I'm gonna be blasting some Led Zeppelin or something to that effect.
