Vent, where are you getting these extra distance estimates? I would think that's a tough figure to get if you've got nothing but the usual video to go by.

Perhaps, but so far he has shown himself to be a racer more so than going after times and that's a hard habit to break. Rudisha is just the opposite, he has been chasing times since he came on the pro circuit.

Also, breaking records requires a certain amount of luck because there are probably only one or two chances in a season to do it. Several things have line up, your peak conditioning has to line up with the schedule, have good rabbits (you can't rely on your competitors) and have good race conditions all around. Something as simple as going out a half second too fast or too slow, having a 10 mph wind for example can through you off.

My understanding of biomechanics and ex phys must be a little more advanced than yours.

Orthodox 800 finishing form resembles 400 meter form - holding form = holding speed.

But in a fast 800, as in 400 hurdles, acidosis becomes so severe that it is actually better to alter form than to hold it. You can do two things: switch to different muscles, or find a way to keep using the same muscles by using them differently. Amos does the latter by exaggerating the movements of his cross-body posterior kinetic chains. These are muscle combos that pass through the calves, hamstrings, and glutes and into the back on the opposite side. When sprint coaches tell you to pull your lead arm down, not push your trailing arm forward, they're alluding to this PKC.

Watch Amos's shoulder rotation on the stretch in Monaco. He pulls his trailing shoulder way back and allows his arm to swing well behind his body. As part of the PKC involving his takeoff leg, it adds power to the chain and thus his takeoff, counteracting the acidosis in his leg. It also helps preserve range of motion across the chain. A fully extended muscle contracts more powerfully, resulting in a more powerful stride.

His arms flop around because he's ignoring them - they're irrelevant. It's what he's doing with his shoulders and back that's important. And try to believe your own eyes - he does it time and again and crushes his opponents. It works.

Alfred Kipketer has a similar style, and in case you didn't notice, last month he ran within half a second of the Hayward Field record, from the front with suboptimal splits.

i agree that amos has incredibly efficient form, not dissimilar in turnover Ngeny's "shuffle".

I must have missed something. Is this thread a result of his blazing fast 1.45.xx at the commonwealth games?

It's the result of "destroying" a not fully fit Rudisha which, incidentally, everyone of note has done this year.

Kipketer is the man to break the world record and not Amos; he has speed and he can take the race like rudisha. 1.40.5 is possible if he can get good coaching to improve his form, remember he is only 17.

We may have to keep tabs on this Pierre Bosse from France.

He was pushing the pace ahead of Amos in Monaco and then started to come back on him after he was passed.

He's at #11 all-time and is young.

We may see he and Amos pushing each other to faster times in the future.

I'm not a doctor or professor or anything, but I'm confident in saying that a short track would benefit a non-elite just as much as it would an elite.

Why do we even bother talking about this? You're so incredibly stubborn and nothing will change your opinion, yet you can't PROVE anything. This is a completely pointless debate.
