And stick those nusiance kids in a day care, don't try parenting them or including them in your activities.
Parenting them doesn't include endangering them. "Most" of the people are in some type of crowd and are putting others and/or their child in danger. Simple as that. Parenting means choosing responsible activities to bring them to. If you can't do that consider birth control. You need to get life (and a sitter).
You can't take kids in your lap on a ferris wheel or circus ride, do you consider that tantimount to outlawing black people? How about taking your child in a race with one of the retractable leashes I see people with? Would you consider that dangerous? How would it be different than a stroller?
In any case it's not "overzealous race directors", it's race directors that are trying to put on a safe event for the bulk of the people participating, not pander to some selfish ones. Race directors who do not control the safety of their course can face financial ruin. While only 3-4 races get sued every year nationally, at least one each year is from a "wheeled participant", usually a baby jogger user.
If a RD isn't prudent and loses the crap shoot, they stand to lose everything because it's rarely covered by insurance. If it's "overzealous" to consider the financial health of your business, family, or club more important that the happiness of a few baby jogger users, call me overzealous. If you think adding $3-5 to the entry fee of EACH PARTICIPANT in order to allow a few baby joggers in is wise, then direct your own races.
Last time I tried for that insurance (at the request of the charity organizing the race) it was 4 times the standard rate (nearly $2000 vs $500). How about we allow baby joggers in, but on race day they have to write a check for the extra insurance divided evenly between all the wheeled participants? That sound fair?
As I said earlier, I'm all for baby joggers. I thiuk they're great. If you want your kids to participant in your activities take them out in the neighborhood for a nice run, just don't take them to a race.
