btw, they were at 3:00 with 400m to go, so it's not like this was a perfectly setup time trial for merber or anything. probably worth a little bit faster, maybe 3:55low

Man, when I first clicked on this thread I thought he ran that for 1500. Glad to see Merber's making a comeback. He's one of the genuine good guys in our sport.

I've always wanted to visit the Medical History Museum at the Central Indiana Hospital for the Insane!!!!!

Jordan McNamara was a 3:40 guy in college, best finish at NCAAs was 8th I believe (in the 5k), now hes a 3:34.00/3:52/1:47 and one of the top Americans every year at USAs and has a godo chance of making OC and WC Teams in the future.

Point is...if you have talent and love the sport then chase your dreams and see how good you can be.

He's also somewhat (maybe an understatement?) full of himself.

Someone said would a top 14 person in another sport stop trying? Totally not apples to apples in most scenarios.

First off he is top 14 in his event (barely top 14, it might honestly be the most generous) but you should include all the people in all the events (lets just use the 10 track events). So really he would be near 140 in the US alone.

So you might say would the 140th best golfer tennis player quit? Also not apples to apples since now through in all the people across the world (would absolutely bury him).

He (remember including all events) might be the 1,000th best track and field athlete in the world (maybe).

The 1,000th best golfers and tennis players drop out all the time.

The 1,000th best basketball player is not in the NBA. Guys hate playing in Europe for $60K.

Only in the NFL, maybe, is the 1,000th guy making decent money but most guys can only play for a couple years.

It's this simple.

1) You are either running because you love it.

2) You are running as your job.

3) Or you are lieing to yourself.

Because only very few people can do both.

If you really love running, then get a job and do it for fun.

If you want running to be your job, and you are not making money, then you are stupid, because that is not a good job, and you are fooling yourself.

People who suck are running, or even people who are good at running, usually try ti trick themselves and other people by saying they are chasing their dream.

The conversation with these people usually goes like this.

If you want to run as your job and want it to be your "passion" you are stupid.

Lots of people have things they love doing and would do for little or no money yet they also would like to make money doing that thing. And as is so often asked here, why do you care? They aren't forcing you to give them money.

Dude, if you're going to totally invent numbers, why bother pretending it's an analysis? Bottom line is, he's a guy making his own decisions. I have no idea what his finances look like, nor do I care. Why? Because he's another f*ckin dude! What do you care? What does anyone care about someone else's financial responsibility at 24? To be fair, it should read Merber "was" 3:35, not is. That was over 2 years ago.

But, this is on the right track, and hopefully this continues. Not exactly an eye-popping performance though, especially after he just missed the finals at USATF's.

The mile at the Harry Jerome Meet in Vancouver tomorrow will be much faster.
