This report is crap. In reference to the Women's 3k, the group had no problem with how it was resolved b/c there's nothing in the Bylaws that doesn't allow it but surely the same could technically be said for the guys 3k.

They also don't address the fact that Bumby's reps weren't notified of the protest. Surely that should be in the recommendations. I mean can't we all agree in our country that the accused actually know what they are accused of. No where does it mention that Bumby or his representatives knew of it. That seems incomprehensible, and to not address letting people know that their specific situation is under review is careless.

In regards to the Women's 3k, they admit as does Alberto admit that he addressed the Jury. Shouldn't he be reprimanded for that? In one instance it reads, "Alberto Salazar admits that he zealously defended his client’s interests as best he could. Given the opportunity to tell the Referee and the Chairman of the Jury why he felt the disqualification was proper, he took advantage of the opportunity." He's not suppose to be able to do this...and he KNOWS that. How he doesn't even get a smack on his hand is beyond me. He's actually absolved of any wrong-doing 2 sentences later. Come onnnnnnnnn. If he's given a chance to talk to the Chairman and the Ref, he's surely having some influence because he's getting to state his case, which isn't how this is to be done.

This is a clown-report. There are some good recommendations, especially in regards to better technology and a sequestered room, but in terms of dealing with the situation as it is/was, it's a joke. Basically, they abrogated their responsibility to the sport to get things right. Gabby should've been DQ'd and they should've stated it, even if it's the unpopular decision and they should've argued that Bumby get reinstated.

I have a lot of confidence in Bob Hersh. If one person had to make a ruling effecting me I'd want Bob Hersh to be that person. Just out of curiosity, where was Rupp in all of this ? I may have missed something, but I thought he was the guy in the race who got molested. Why did the first race official hop over the athlete and go straight to the coach ? That's mistake number one, ask the least qualified person. Surely, of all parties involved (and I don't recall seeing Salazar anwhere on the track during the race) Rupp would know who, where, and when, someone tried to cop a free feel. You remember things like that. It's not like he was stuck in the middle of Kenyans he didn't know, he knew who everyone in the race was and where they were. I think that one of the biggest flaws in the report is that the role of a coach hasn't been reined in. The coach can do what he wants before and after the meet but has absolutely no physical relevance during the race and therefore should not be involved in any official discussions around the race itself. The athlete seems to have been completely forgotten.

I am sure you know that Bob was a lawyer and a darn good one. Bottom line is that you don't create a bigger mess by making another mistake after the first mistake. The answer to all of this is "Do the right thing". If you have evidence that a judgment call was incorrect, correct it and that is that. Time is not of the essence here, as we are not in a court of law. It was a track meet and no team championship was at state. Selection to another meet was not at issue. So correct the mistake.

My other point is that coaches and or agents have no business getting involved in the decision making process of an event on the track. Their vehicle is the Protest Sheet which they can file. Officials and ultimately the Jury of Appeals gets to review the case and make a decision. The input from coach and or agent ends with the Protest Sheet. Any further involvement is detrimental to the process. The close ties to Nike and the coach/agent can create unforeseen consequences. Officials know the rules. It is not as if the Meet Director went out on the street and found some volunteers to help out at the meet.

It seems quite obvious from the report that the Officials tried to "make nice" with Salazar and created more of a problem rather than execute their duty. For certain, an official has no jurisdiction to notify a coach or agent that his or her athlete has been fouled. As others have said, protests come from coaches or agents. Violations are reported by Officials to the Referee or Head Judge of the Field Events.

Seems to me a lot of protocol was either ignored or bypassed.

There is no use in discussing the report. It's a weak effort to "check the box" and say the issue has been addressed.

The real question is: everyone who read it is insulted and unsatisfied -- what is that group going to do?

Max and Stephanie are counting on us to gripe for a few days over a holiday weekend then drop it.

It makes you wonder: T&F has been around for well over 100 years and we STILL haven't figured out the rules.

The only logical solution to this mess is to ask for volunteers from LR to officiate all the big meets from here forward. After all, here we have people who know it all, jump to conclusions, are prejudiced as to individuals and organizations, and aren't ever satisfied by anything, not even the chaos that they largely create in their own minds.

Let's face it, the report that everyone was clamoring for is now out. The report admits to a human error by a volunteer official in the Bumbalough case. The report, for the first time, exposes Paul Doyle for his egregiousness in the Hasay issue. And the report largely vindicates Salazar.

You whiners will continue to whine away your miserable hating lives. I'm laughing my ass off at all of you.

The USATF is a joke, the sooner it is disbanded the better for everyone. Time to develop a better, less "influenced", structure whose mandate is to help the sport by helping the athletes, not just pretend they are so doing, when it is apparent that those who are helped are themselves - at the top level anyway. Don't really see how this is much different than the old "AAU" - different people but same attitudes.

Ineptitude at its best for all of the names there except Bob. He though is to caught up in helping USATF save face for the organization reputation which is a part of. Given the circumstance and obvious failures this group should be removed from making ruling decisions going forward as to keep the process accountable.
