WOW. Someone posts an very positive message, that they're proud of, and it turns into a cynical, negative thread. I'd just like to congratulate Michelle for her positive post, and also say that although these bracelets have become a fashion statement, it surely is nice to have messages of strength and courage woven into fashion. It sure beats fashion stemming from violence, hatred and cynicism.

I agree with you, I agree with your first post and I most definetely agree with this one. I don't think you're being negative at all, it should be all about what it means to you, not what it means to everyone else and whether its cool or uncool.

you have a very good point. i think there is a difference here, though. it's not the same as tight-rolling your pants (1990 style), or wearing them so big that they could double as a tent (1995 style). It's not just a matter of looking cool. it is supposed to mean all of these "special" things--including the fact that you are supporting people suffering through the living hell of cancer. In fact, most people who wear them wouldn't give up one weekend night out in order to donate just $15 to the cause. And they'd be damned if they would spend a day helping at a fundraiser for cancer research.

I completely agree with you on your general point about the "cool" people who don't follow trends. I just don't think this is your every-day fashion trend.

I was just cleaning my apartment (AKA picking my freaky roommate's belongings up off the livingroom floor so I can leave it in a big pile in his room) and I found a liveSTRONG band. I kid you not.

Dammit. Now I can never wear one. I have the weirdest roommate in history. This guy prays to Jesus 3-5 times a day, wears all black, answers my phone, and is a compulsive liar. There are at least 3 bibles that I can see in our livingroom right now.

While Nike does not make a direct profit from these little yellow things, they no doubt get publicity from it, and it is heavily amusing to watch as they market a charitable product at one time, and at the same time force young children to work long hard days for a few dollars.

I AM REALLY LOOKING FOR A LIVESTRONG WRISTBAND SO IF NE ONE COULD HELP ME OUT...THAT'D BE GREAT. PRICE IS NO CONCERN FOR ME. THANKS.SARAH

If it takes a puke yellow band to get you motivated etc then you are all just plain lame...tho I hear that every Kenyan secretly trains with one.

who really cares what type of people wear them the goal was to raise money for cancer research and whoever gave money doesnt have any less right to wear them than you do just because you dont agree with their lifestyle so quit your complaining and if you need a bracelet to live your life than you suck anyways

Yeah it is a trend, but think about, if they are trying to raise this money, then the trend is a good. Everyone wants them so the foundation will make more money because everyone wants one. Yeah, it sucks that people are getting them just to be cool, but at least the money is going for a good cause.

Im very proud of my yellow bracelet because in Portugal nobody knows nothing about it and nobody wear it except ME, - Nike Stores have a lot to sell here in Portugal ! - so people often ask me "why are you wearing that" and I explain "my mother had cancer and she refused to die and is still fighting against it, so the bracelet reminds me everyday that OTHER PEOPLE, NOT MY MOTHER, ARE FIGHTING HARD TO MAKE A LIVING WITH OR WITHOUT CANCER, and its my duty to help everybody to LIVE STRONG. The bracelet reminds not to be obssesed ( ?!?) with my mother CANCER, and think in all the others.

no, i don't think it's a reminder to themselves.

just because it's a trend to others doesn't mean it can't be worn for the right reason by most. if you believe in something and it has meaning to you, who cares what others think, if you had it on for the right reason in the first place, you wouldn't care why others wear it, just that millions of dollars have been raised for the right reason!!!!

the thing that gets me...he's a pro cyclist!! I enjoy the sport very very much but we all know if the US population took a poll about top ten sports this might come up on the top 10 of maybe 5% of the people...that to me is what is amazing about it...that people from all walks of life wear the band. I've had mine since the first day of the tour and back then i never thought it would be what it is today...so whether its trendy or corny or whatever lance has managed to raise millions for cancer research and hopefully increased the viewer size of another great endurance sport that usually forgotten in the US.

To me the entire concept of LiveSTRONG has become a walking cliche. This post is a fair representation of what I, and many other runners, hell athletes period believe. I graduated from HS this past fall and our entire distance core wore the bracelets at state because it signified that we accepted these values as a core mantra in our training, friendship and lives in general.

I support the cause because I have had family members stricken with cancer and I admire the spirit which all survivors and those struck down with the disease carry themselves. I have had people tell me to take my braclet off. They tell me with a sneer that the fad has passed. Well, I'm saying f*** you to spirit of instant gratification.

For me, the braclet has become apart of me. Once again this might be a cliche or contradiction in and of itself but, still I can't help it if this damn thing means something to me.

Very few people I believe truly try to comprehend the message behind these bracelets. Sure some people say Lance is an asshole or that he may be a doper. To me that is a secondary factor. I and my teammates and friends wear them because they stand for something not limited to mere athletic prowess. Instead, they represent the endurance of human sprit and resolve.
