The genuine answer is that doubling 10k/5k is certainly not ideal one week before a target race. It's Rupp's call to put a greater priority on keeping his national title streak going at 10k. He's earned it.

If Lagat wants to run against Rupp at 5000m he could have tried to enter Oslo or Paris himself. If Lagat is no longer a sub-13 5000M guy, then he's just not as good as Rupp at that distance and there's nothing really worth talking about.

Honestly, I'm curious if Lagat is still a sub-13 guy or not. I wouldn't put it past him.

And just because one runner is faster doesn't mean he will always beat the other at that race. Lagat obviously has some good tactics. I think he'd have given Rupp a serious run for his money had Rupp run the 5K.

I really hope Lagat runs the Paris 5,000M, so we can get a real showdown!

Agreed here. Rupp might well be faster than Lagat at this point in his career, but goddamn it, Lagat is 39 years old! Don't be too proud of being faster than a man over a decade your superior.

Also, Rupp will never make Lagat his "beatch." As the above poster said, if your record is 1-11 against another runner, with you on the losing side of the equation, you aren't exactly the superior.

And yeah, why are you talking about Rupp peaking for the Olympic TRIALS, when Lagat "peaked" and beat Rupp at the Olympic GAMES?! It makes your entire argument look invalid and just very weak.
