It's the theory that women in mixed races may be paced - like the IAAF fuss over Paula Radcliffe's "world record" vs. "world best" from a couple of years ago.

Deena Kastor has the "mixed" American record at 51:31.

not why he got spanked. he's been *getting spanked* for some time now. which very coincidentally matches the time he's been on the usada out of competition pool (he was NOT on the pool until last year- a mystery to me why usatf didn't feel he needed to be, considering he won about 15 national titles prior to that). ever since he was added to usada's OOC pool, he's not been anywhere near the same athlete. of course I'm sure he'll come on here anonymously and say something about an injury or some other load of bullus crappus like that. nice to see everyone else has a chance now.heck of a run by landry, he's been good but nice to see him break through like this. a deserving lad.

The U.S. women's times a good, the men are slow for a USATF Championship. 47x is a sub-elite performance, which you can sometimes see at a local 10 miler.

If you look at the gaps between each runner you will see that the women have larger disparities meaning the men's field was more competitive. Also, look at the gap from 1 to 10. Much larger disparity again in women's race. What race have you seen a sub 48 on a certified course by an American?

No, the women's field was much stronger and deeper than the men's. You can't compare men's and women's times linearly because women's times drop off more drastically (exponentially) than men's. There were also 3,000+ more women in the field, so you can't blame "lack of depth" or "lack of competitiveness" for this drop off. It exists across all events.

I converted the 10th place female's time to an HM time (1:13:30), which equates to 1:03:14 for a man in the Mercier calculator. Meanwhile, the 10th place American man's time converts to 1:04:40- definitely a much slower men's field than women's.
