"Lines get blurred"? You sound like you're preparing your own defense in advance. There is absolutely no reason at all for the relationship between a coach and a teen athlete to be that "close" or for any lines to be blurred. Any 48 year old man who thinks a 17 year old girl is interested in him absent his position of authority needs his head examined.

I am reading a new story every day about female teachers/school personnel being busted for sexual relationships with underage male students.
The New York Daily News takes a particular interest in picking up on these stories nationwide and I swear they have had the mugshot of a different female teacher or school aide being busted just about every day for the last week.

What is with these dudes, seriously!! Do they think they have the right to prey on young girls? This is three pedophiles from three of the top CC schools in the past three years. I take interest in these stories and wonder if these athletic programs are making these men feel privaledged with an i can do what i want attitude.

Why are you using the word 'prey'? You have no idea what the circumstances of their relationship are. She could have been the initiator. Even if he was the initiator, why do you label it 'prey'? nah.. Ive just been around the sport long enough to see that it happens OFTEN. See it, known people that have done it and none of them were some drooling knuckle dragging fiends.. they got into a situation and it got out of control.

No, that's an excuse. A female runner brings up a topic that's too personal or too close, you steer her in the direction of someone she can talk to. A female teacher. A female coach. A guidance counselor. If you're feeling attracted to a young female runner whom you're coaching, you don't act on it. You don't encourage confidential conversations. You don't email or text her. You don't "let things get out of control." As a coach or a teacher you are entrusted with the well being of your athletes or students. Do enter into a physical or sexual relationship with one of them IS preying on them.

And no, I am not mistaken. Just because two people get together does not mean that one preyed upon the other. The situation could easily have been mutually caused. Sure, the guy should have turned her down if he wanted to stay out of trouble, but that doesn't mean anyone was preyed upon or taken advantage of. 17 year old girls know what sex is.
