That might work in the NCAA (although with Cheserek's final 200m?), but if he wants to do something after that on the track he will definitely need to improve his speed. He won't be able to front run his way to a win in an international meet with all the talent that is out there. So unless he wants to go straight to the roads, he still needs to make some major improvements. However, the season is still very young so maybe we will see better speed from him later on.

Henry Rono used to talk at great length about the leg speed velocity of his youth and how he longed for those days when his own could be best measured by a leg speed velociraptor. There are many, many excellent examples of the importance of this metric. Perhaps none so well put as the words of the great Seb Coe in talking about how absolutely critical leg speed velocity is to one's success at the shorter distances.
