It's the thought that counts? Lalang was way too ambitious, didn't show enough respect for his competition and ended up running two finals. Ches also ran two finals - 1st & 1st, Lalang - 2nd & 2nd.
Boy I admire and enjoy watching Che's run. He runs within himself, knows and respects the competition and executes.
this makes me really respect rupp's senior year. despite racing at Olympics in summer 08 and worlds in summer 09 he put down the favorite, chelanga,in ncaa xc (in most peoples minds), beat him over 5K and 3K and then won the dmr on his finish at indoors, then the 5K-10K double outdoors. He also beat a load of quality 1500 guys at conference and regionals including wheating and heath. that has to be the best year for a distance runner in ncaa history.

Lawi was definitely not "way too ambitious" considering the 5k was won in 13:40 compared to his 13:00 (13:08 indoor) PR, mile 4:04 vs. his 3:52, and 8:11 vs. his 7:42.

Exactly. His strategy was good. Run fast enough to get rid of kickers with slow PRs, but slow enough to not be too tired for his other events. Unfortunately, he didn't run fast enough to get rid of Cheserek's kick. That was his mistake.
