Clearly shows Cheserek was born in 1993 and Ben Saarel was born in 1995 so he is of age. Cheserek is the age of a college junior now you can stop trying to lie and say he's actually a freshman.

Actually, he's the age of a college sophomore. Still old, but not what you make it out to be.

Saarel is actually just young if he was born in 1995.

It's actually very standard for college ages to go something like this:

-Freshmen starting college will come in at age 18 and become age 19 before the beginning of the second academic year.

-Sophomores will usually be 19 before the beginning of the second academic year, and will turn 20 sometime before the start of the third academic year.

Specifically, these ages may vary based on the cutoff dates mandated by the individual states from which each student came.

For instance, in Illinois, a current high school senior would typically have to be 17 years old BEFORE September 2nd. In New Jersey (where Cheserek went to school), a high school senior would have to be 17 years old BEFORE October 1st.

Cheserek in specific, was 18 before October 1st of his senior year, and turned 19 before the end of it, meaning that he was a year old for his grade.

That being said, he is actually the perfect age for a college sophomore coming from New Jersey.

Reading my own post, I see that there may be some ambiguity .

Basically, I will take New Jersey as an example, and Cheserek's academic year of graduation in specific.

Cheserek graduated as a member of the class of 2013.

The New Jersey educational system requires that to be a member of the class of 2013, an individual should have turned 17 before October 1st, 2012. This actually goes all the way back to the Kindergarten cutoff date.

Lalang's a 3:33/13:00 guy and he was just handled in the kick of all things by essentially an undefeated redshirt freshman (in track) who destroyed Kithuka in muddy conditions in cross as well. Cheserek's obviously going to run very, very fast outdoors if he gets into some races with elites.

The age thing is old, go back and look at old threads to shed proper light on this issue. So Cheserek graduated from high school (2013) at the age of 19, having been 19 according to your estimate for 4 months, however, that would mean he was born in February 2nd, 1994. He was born according to All-Atheltics in 1993, as previously shown in this thread, and in the dream mile lists his birthday was 1/1/1993 (http://www.letsrun.com/news/2013/05/adidas-high-school-dream-mile/). By that standard he would be an average age junior.

Now, why all these conflicting dates? Because he doesn't know his birthday. 1/1/1993 and 2/2/1994 are both pretty conspicuous dates. Also, considering the fact these separate dates have gotten out here only cements the fact he just gives random dates.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter. It is what it is, and people who complain about him winning forget that Cheserek helps raise the game of everyone around him. (See Stinson, who would have thought he could get 3rd at nationals?)

Idiot, that's not how it works. I'm a college freshman, and was born in December of 1994. People who are college freshmen right now were born in early 1995 or late 1994. Just because every college freshman you know was born in 1995 doesn't mean they all are. Anyone born from September of 1994 to June of 1995 is the age of a college freshman right now.

I am impressed with the kid. He is not old by any common sense notion. He is running very competitively for any 20 year old.

When I saw him run in high school, he looked a bit stocky, not heavy, but stocky, giving me the impression he was stronger than his high school competitors but not necessarily fitter. And I truly was skeptical over how much he would improve. The FootLocker hype circuit does not necessarily make for a great future either.

But his training at Oregon must be superb. I remain a bit more impressed by his NCAA cross country victory, but only because that race is just ever so difficult, and his domination over the last mile was impressive.

Only on Lets Run, rife with insecure and self centered running geeks, could anyone be negative about Cheserek's fine performances.
