Facebook is 10 years old. Will it last another 10 years?

I agree with this. Seems my news feed is just full of videos and pictures my friends have "liked" these days. The sort of videos you can just go on YouTube to look at. Not a lot getting posted about their real life.

The only reason I still keep Facebook is for the messenger application on my phone. I find it helpful for when I don't have someone's Cell phone number etc.

Yep I think on reflection "competitive" was the wrong word to use. Definitely agree that it is about individual gratification rather than networking. The networking side of it is a mask people use to validate having an account, but in truth it's all about gratification and as Johnny a Ringo mentioned, feeling like lots of people actually care about your life because they pressed a 'like' button on your latest update... where is the emotional connection in that?

While this may be true, are you arguing that facebook is here to stay? It's lasted longer than I expected, but it's decline is now looking very real. Ask myspace how quickly fortunes can change.

It depends on what you mean by "last".

With the advent of Google Glass and Oculus Rift things are shaping up to change more in the next 10 years than they did in the last 20.

It's like Facebook will exist, but it won't be called that, and instead of visiting Facebook behind a screen and keyboard, you'll GO INSIDE IT and wander around it as if it were a real world.
