you believe me now?
Dude, go for it. Ater this year at hs you should be sub 4:20 and probably around 9:20... and if that's the case, after a year of serious training in Boulder, there is no reason why you won't be a 9:00 type cross 2004. Pretty well positioned for a frosh really...

Here is a quote my math teach told me after he heard me argue to my english teacher about how english was not as important as running because it wasnt what i cared about. this goes to the guy who says "you will only meet failure, and if you dont no one will care anyway" first of all i dont care if anyone cares, i run for me. here is the quote "the qualit of a persons life is in direct proportion to the pursuit of quality regardless of the chosen field of endeveavor."
What do you have to lose??? Nothing. You'll have a great, fun year. you'll undoubtedly get fast and you'll qualify for in-state tuition. Sounds smart to me. If you can find a job and a place to live- GO FOR IT!
Cut costs by renting a room from someone or find a roommate that wants to do the same thing to share housing costs with...
"the quality of a persons life is in direct proportion to the pursuit of perfection regardless of the chosen field of endeveavor."
sorry i screwd up the first one
Let me help you. Don't listen to these people. They are no namers who speak only on the experience of dreams and wishful thinking, not reality. Don't throw away your life chasing pennies others have pitched. Go for your education where you can have a real life, make real money, and find a real woman. Track is a sport in this country that no one cares about and always leads to a dead end. If you get smart you'll quit and discover the real world.
im not throwing my life away i am going to do somthing i love AND get an education while i am at it, i am planning on going to the CU. it is not a waste if you love what your doing
Mr chest go away, no one wants to hear your thoughts on this.
It could possibly be one of the best years of your life- a year that you dropped everything and went after a dream. Spending a year running in CO mountains a waste? Even if you didn't get that fast, I still wouldn't see it as a waste. The point of living is to enjoy life, do things that YOU see as worthwhile and meaningful.
I think a lot of people are scared to do anything slightly departing from the norm. You don't HAVE to jump into college immediately after graduating... your parents just want you to think you have to.

You can't walk onto any D1 team, even at a small school, just cause you're running 15:40's for 5k. Under 15:30, maybe.
I 4:20, 9:40 kid I would assume would have no problem walking on at almost any school. Plus he's got another season of track left.
Tell me what schools won't take him? i guess some with some hardcore title IX limits.
Wetmore would be interested in about anyone right now with decent times. They were not deep this year, and unless he gets a bunch of studs coming next year they will be in for a bit of trouble. I would say he would be interested in anyone that can run 4:25ish as a senior in H.S. Again, he is having trouble with Stanford. Because of Stanfords weather and facilities which attracts a lot of recruits, no one will compete with their depth. No, Wetmore is not or can afford to be picky. No depth at Colorado. Go for it and make the team. It may not be all that difficult.
Hey wejo, I tried walking on at William & Mary this year, I didn't make it. I've got a 15:44 PR.
So you're now the spokesperson for Wetmore? You don't even know 0.001% of what you think you know.
Some teams are more walk on friendly than others. I know of teams that will take absolutely everyone that wants to run and others that will give you the cold shoulder if you didn't win a state title. The best plan you can have is to contact Wetmore and find out if you have a shot or not. Colorado might allow more distance walk ons since it is more distance oriented. If you have ever seen WSC cross country roster you might see what I'm talking about.
With your times you are probably being recruited many a few schools. If you only want to run for CU, then do it. However, you may be able to get a partial scholarship at several schools, which could be hard to do if you take a year off. And for the guy who mentioned your times weren't good enough to walk on at D1 schools, many schools on the east coast will take anyone who is dedicated to run as long as theres room in the track office.
if you want some more nitty-gritty on living out here, gaining state residency for school, etc. feel free to drop me a line, n8.
and nevermind the bollocks.
Where did you run 15:39, and with a time like that, how did you place at the state meet?
i had a nose bleed and lost alot of blood the night before the statemeet i was ranked fourth and would have easliy gotten it
(would have been the next guy behind fennel) but i could hardly move and almost passed out.
Hopefully third time's a charm at getting this reply off!
Nate, as a former upstate NY resident (my wife hold a slew of course records in your area), I take an interest in your quest. After graduation, get out here and get your residency (one year of self-sufficiency; i.e., you can't be a dependent on your parents tax return), and then you will be eligible for in-state tuition. Meanwhile train hard and see where you land. You might also consider the other schools in the area: CSU, Western State, Adams, or even Air Force. They all have good programs.
Those are not bad times at all... A certain 9:40 HS 2 miler I know personally eventually ran low 14s in 5K and qualified for the Oly Trials Marathon.
Your times are good enough to walk-on at a D1 school. Don't let the nay-sayers get to ya. Go for it.
