He didn't say that it wasn't scripted, he said that it wasn't a "scripted reality show". Do you understand the difference between those two statements?
of course it's scripted, can ya name one 'reality' show that is not? That's the absolute brilliance of the concept, it has taken professional wrestling to a completely different levelmy wife gets angry at me for showing her emails and pre season concept briefs from some of the music related shows. she doesn't want to believe that they are not fully 'real'. people are strange

I wouldn't say ignorant, I'd say it's the result of too many people being willing to talk out of their a$$ in spite of having no knowledge of the subject.
Duck Dynasty is just a sitcom couched within the format of what appears to be a reality show. To claim it's a scripted reality show is comical. The reason people enjoy the show is because it's funny, very relateable and ultimately wholesome.
Phil Robertson made a comment regarding his religious beliefs, and the one thing people seem to have conveniently glossed over is that he also said he believed the job of Christians was to love people, not dictate who does and doesn't go to heaven. Everyone chose instead to focus on how he believes homosexuality is a sin.
That said, while I believe Phil Robertson has every right to state his beliefs, I also believe A&E has every right to hire or fire people that they don't believe represent their brand well. I do think it's a bit hypocritical for A&E to promote the show as though they didn't realize what any of the Robertsons might ultimately believe about a host of major issues (homosexuality, abortion, etc.).

Hundreds of thousands of people, maybe millions, sit all day watching television. they are fat. They eat Doritos. They eat meat and fate all day, and never touch a ruffage outside of the lettuce on a cheeseburger.
That is the demographic of the audience for this show.
While 3000 might be a large number to show up at a 4 mile race. 300,000 others are scoffing at the 3000 and staying on their couch....all day.
this is what this country is becoming. Stupid shows about rednecks who made millions, and spend it on stupid stupid stuff. And, people watch the show, that's the funny part.

Duck Dynasty is NOT a reality show. It is NOT a scripted
reality show.
Duck Dynasty is a SITCOM that uses a "regular" family as the actors. The reason people love the show is because it is goofy and fun and uses the same old jokes and skits people liked in the 50s 60s 70s and 80s. It is just an old style sitcom.
So it's really popular despite being a lazy rehash of 30+ year old jokes starring non-professional actors? That's kind of sad.
My 70 year old parents really aren't into comedy like Daniel Tosh. They love DD

Great post. Who cares if these guys can make a living? They are millionaires many times over. We owe them nothing. Fake beards too. Why is this even news? When I first heard of Duck Dynasty I thought it was something to do with Football.
The fact that these losers can become successful beyond your wildest dreams is pathetic.
They can say whatever they want, but free speech doesn't guarantee you the love of the public and media!

I would rather see DD make money off their 'situation' than a trashy single teen Mom on MTV or Honey Boo Boo for god's sake. At least DD makes a product and has a healthy family lifestyle.
I do not watch the show, but it is their family life that resonates with their audience.
For people that believe sitcoms are real and not scripted should not be allowed to wander around without adult supervision.
