The TV show Simon & Simon. This episode is from 1983. They are hired to investigate a death at the university. AJ (Jameson Parker) poses as a miler and joins the track team. Rick (Gerald McRaney) signs up as a lab subject for exercise experiments. Surprisingly McRaney on the treadmill looks like a pretty good athlete while Parker on the track looks like just a jogger.

Does it presage her self destruction and the destruction of one of her lovers? Is the venue important? Is this about liberation and death? Is it about running or racing? Is the scene a comic aside or is it central to the film?
