I melted some butter and mixed it with bud, not knowing what the hell I was doing. Of course, since I didn't prepare it right, it had no effect...at first. The next day at work I began a very strange feeling high that lasted for at least another 24 hours. It was like a really whack party.

Marijuana does have a lot of medicinal benefits, but you can get those from eating it too. When smoked marijuana actually creates more carcinogens then ciggerettes. People that are sick and smoke it its usally for pain management and an appetite helper.
My friends kitchen caught on fire when we tried it. That's why.

Also, smoking is bad for your running? Isn't your marathon PR like 3:30? I'm not saying it isn't worthwhile to train and want to run when that is your time, but maybe recognize enjoying life a little isn't going to make or break you getting the trials A standard. Anything that makes you laugh uncontrollably in Whole Foods should be treated as a positive in your life now and then.

Not that it'll make a difference to me since I'm not, nor will I ever be, a pot user. I absolutely detest the stench of pot. It's not legalized where I live but people smoke it openly everywhere and it's a nuisance. I support its legalization only so that it will be subject to the same controls as alcohol consumption, e.g. banned in public parks and on the street. The "open container" laws are rigorously enforced but current pot laws are not. Anyway, that's a different discussion.

that's actually pretty funny, and yeah edibles are typically much more intense than your average smoke.
dabs (butane hash oil) are another story
First off eating it is NOT less efficient. If you are a pot-head, it is better to eat .5g and be high all day than to smoke .5g.
Also you dont have to use butter, nor do you need to invest a lot of prep time. Just slap some peanut butter on a cracker, sprinkle .5g on it, and bake it at 250c for 20 mins, gets you baked all day. Look up other recipes for "firecrackers"
