Devin Hester: 1:54 800m and 4:09 mile

Wikipedia also claimed that Gilbert Brown was a state champion high jumper. If you were alive back in the 80s, you might recall the day when the Earth collided with the moon due to the recoil from The Gravedigger's 2.15m winning leap.

Somebody edited the page at 9:15pm to remove those 800m and 1600m times. They didn't have a source citation. Could be just somebody messing with it.

Trindon Holliday is the real deal when it comes to speed and the 100m in the NFL. 9.98 is the real deal for a football player.

10.8 and 20.77???? That would mean Obea's 2nd 100m for the 200m was sub 10.0. Obea must have been much faster than 10.8.

I ran for a school in the same district as Hester. I know he ran 10.7-10.8 range several times, I don't remember a 10.4. I also don't ever remember him running even a 400m. He definitely never ran an 800m or 1600m.

Anecdotally, his senior year he had the fastest seed times for the 100m and 200m, but was upset in both events at the state meet (by 0.02 in the 100 and 0.01 in the 200!). We ended up beating Suncoast 4 points for the state championship.

Yeah, I'm in those results and he definitely did not beat me (he probably could have if he tried though because my time was so god-awful).

Actually it's possible.

Years ago we had a high school sprinter who was good enough for a college track scholarship (low 10's for the 100 m etc). Whether he excelled at that good/bad I'm not sure. But came home again and, was surprisingly quick & strong in x-country, showed promise & more promise in road races - and - one day ran 66 plus min for a 20 km road race (which he won!) and, ran 2:25 for the 1982 Vancouver marathon!!!

Sprintking becomes a marathoner.

Excelled at all the local road races winning his age group routinely.

4:09 in high school is head and shoulders above 2:25. There are a few hundred guys in the US who can run 2:25 in a given year but maybe only a dozen or so high schoolers who go 4:09. If there was a high schooler simultaneously running 10.8 for 100 and 4:09 for the mile we would remember it.

4:09 would have been the 6th fastest time in the country that year, just behind Bobby Curtis and ahead of Chris Solinsky.

There's this shit called milesplit and even if it wasn't as accurate then, a 4:09 would defeinitly be shown/reported. Especially when paired with a 10.8. Also why would he have any desire whatsoever to run/train for a 1600 when he's running sub 11 100s. And for all of you saying he could do it off of his freak athletic ability I don't even know what to say. A 4:10 mile in high school is a feat that even most elites cannot accomplish. Yall shit be trippin' balls man

Low 10 for the 100m in HS? He's never running a 4:09 mile. BTW low 10s in HS would make him one of the top HS sprinters in the country.

Devin Hester is a F-baller. Im sure he would have no interest/need to run an 800m or mile

Devin Hester has no legit sub 10.5 times in high school or college.

Chris Johnson's "10.38" is NWI. He has no time close to it with a legit wind reading. Never won his state meet, not even close. If he was a legit 10.3 guy he'd had some state titles to show. IIRC he didn't even win his section/conference.

Randy Moss ran 6.36 pb in the 55m and 21 something in the 200m. In college. He would have gotten whooped by random D3 white kids.

Most 'fast' NFL guys are mid 10s at best, most above that. Most ran faster in HS and as college freshman than they could now (like CJ Spiller).
