Running both events and thinking of oneself and ignorning most others is the American way. At least Meb had a clue....

Funny, but do some research on running marathons. A lot of folks, with good credentials, actually recommend racing 10k a week before.
LOL - lots of "seasoned and reasoned" criticism about Dan's marathon performance from a bunch of kids too afraid to race more than 5,000 meters or train more than 60 miles per week.
No interviews with Meb probably because he was in a locker room trying to pee in a cup.
Where in our Olympic trials qualifying system did it ever give anyone the impression that Dan could double? His Marathon-10,000 double was MONTHS APART!!! Not a week apart. If the Olympics had the marathon a lot of months before the 10,000, then it would make sense for Dan to go, because he qualified IN THAT MANNER. But his qualifing for both races was little to no indication that he could actually be the one of the best Americans with 2 races in a week.

Yeah, that's at least twice now that our Olympic marathoners haven't had their priorities straight...the first being Frank Shorter back in '72. He ran the 10K and did well (5th), but what was he thinking when he tried to run the marathon a week later? He should have given up is spot so someone else could run.
Get off Brown's nuts. He earned his spots.
Agreed. Kevin where if any marathon this fall will Trent Briney be running?
Thanks
John
Was a passenger in a car when the literal wobbly-wheel thing happened, was a competitor in a marathon when the figurative thing -- cramps, slowdown, slow but not taxing finish -- happened to me.
Haha, I was waiting for someone to mention Shorter. However, I don't think that will do anything for most people on this board. Dan had the opportunity and he took it. He earned it. I wish he had run better, but bad, unexpected shit can happen in the marathon - like leg cramps (or a crazy man dressed as a leprechaun tackling you).

Being lapped and running 28:12 when you PR is 27:42 would not be running well in the 10k.
Right you are. The fact that the conditions were drastically different doesn't mean a f***ing thing. Had Browne been forced to wear moon boots he still should have run 27:42 again if he wanted to be credited with a decent performance. Bekele won the gold but he was even further off his personal best so it's a watered down victory and he should flush his medal down the drain.
