They appear to have imploded. Which seems impossible knowing the talent on that team. Those 3 freshmen should be way out front!
I thought 2 of the 3 freshmen were 800/mile runners?
Pretty sure Mcgee doesn't care about cross too much, she is just there to score for her team....compound that with the fact that wisco was her first race and that she probably just got off of break from WORLDS and I would call that easing into things, not a flop.

I'm not sure that Isaac Wood was crazy. Duke women might have the most talented roster in the country just look at it they are just underperforming to the extreme. Performing the way they are is inexcusable.
is O'Hare a distance guy...? I knew of mile races from past seasons but I double checked his Tulsa profile and it doesn't mention any xc running/racing over the mile. If this is in fact the case, and he's bring a significant endurance base into this year - watch out track fans.

This is a recurring, common theme for Duke women. A coach, who annually has that kind of talent he/she does, would be fired at most schools. He/she is either a great recruiter, assistants are great recruiters, or the women just want to attend/graduate from Duke.
A few girls seem to survive - do they have outside coaching? I don't know. However, when you study the talent that has come through that program over the last decade, it is a shame how much talent has been wasted.
Duke For sure!

Why didn't Frazier run? She is the HS indoor record holder at 5000 indoor and is a sub 4:40 runner at the mile. I think she is the best HS runner of 2013 not named Cain
Aaron Nelson from Washington, 4th place at Wisco. Big race for him after two solid wins at Sundodger and Dillinger.
Fayetteville Women can't get no love? flotrack predicts them 7th, nationally ranked 9th.. a very solid 2nd... 20 pts behind Arizona, handled Providence and the rest. WOOPIGSOOIE
COLORADO: A
Pearson- (A+) Best transfer around
Saarel- (A+) Part of the great Freshmen class
Theroux- (B-) Not the best of performances, but 22nd on an off day is still very good.
Murphy- (A) Great XC guy, the rock of the team.
Winter- (B+) A true #5 XC guy, He will be a key at nationals
Moussa- (D+) Over Hyped or coming back?
Perrin- (C) Good freshman performance, but wont help the team.
Season Outlook: They ran very controlled and will have to stay controlled at Nationals. No depth if Jake and Dowdy(where is he?)don't run. Will need some Wettmore Magic to beat OSU, but should be a solid 2nd.
OREGON: B
Cheserek- (A)+ Best Freshman and all around top runner.
Stinson- (C) Should be there #1. Can't handle pressure?
Fleet- (A) Great job by a true "Miler" reminisce of Centro
Leingang- (A) very solid job by a true Freshman.
Winn- (B+) A "Miler" that is carrying the "5th man" weight for the Ducks. Too much to ask?
Melancon- (D+) A distance guy that can't run XC? Stinson's twin?
Elkaim- (F) A one hit wonder? or Dejanarte's twin?
Season Outlook: They have some top runners, but too many Milers carrying the weight. They have 2 of the best Freshmen but no true #5 and Stinson needs to perform like a #1. Where is Jenkins and Pickering ?, or are they hoping on the Frenchman to save them. Their fate at nationals is in their own hands, they have talent!
Duke's #2 & #3 (Frazier & Meier) were very sick (not running) for 2 weeks. They didn't run at Notre Dame and Wisc. was their first race back after just a few days of training. Frazier was a DNF at Wisc. because of this. Hopefullly they will both be 100% healthy/back in shape by NCAAs, if not by ACCs.

I couldn't help noticing the difference in outcomes between BYU's Jason Witt and Solomon Haile of Arkansas.
Witt is talented, but having gone on a mission during what would be typically a sophomore year, it is difficult to discern whether athletes like him ever will pan out. But it is clear he is now running at a top NCAA Div. 1 level. BYU's culture and system makes it difficult to predict success. And yes, he is physically more mature than most.
Haile is to me no surprise. He was an overage high school athlete. This point is not being made to raise the high school eligibility issue, but rather a reflection that he likely had far less upside potential than most top high school runners. I was curious when Arkansas recruited him. They certainly train with rigor. But again, I am not surprised at the results.
Let's not get carried away. Haile is an All-American. Witt was 244th at Nationals last year and his best finish is 92nd. Yes he ran very well at Wisconsin but if we're talking "results", one has clearly produced more than the other.

Your understanding of NCAA runners is about as strong as your grasp on deflation.
O'hare won the ND Invite and the Midwest Regional last year. This is not his first big cross country performance.
