No point in getting too excited about the times. It's basically a 3-mile (or slightly less) track race and to think those kids could run 13:55 or 15:57 for 2.9 to 3.0M on a track is not outrageous. Haney is a 3:44 1500/8:48 3200 runner and Baxter should be able to run 16:15 or better for 5k on the track. Cain would probably be sub-15:20 on that course.

It's not short, its definitely 100% 3 miles and although the course is no doubt fast, I wouldn't call it a track race. There are quite a few tight turns with some gravel and some heavy mud on a few of them. Regardless, the times by Baxter and Haney are nothing to scoff at.

Probably the same reason Hasay didn't run 9:45 or faster in high school. No rabbits.
Cain is better than Hasay right now and markedly better as a HS athlete. Are you suggesting Baxter is also better than Hasay?

I didn't say anything about anyone being better than anyone. The point I was trying to make is that the reason Hasay and Baxter don't have faster 2 mile times is because they haven't had rabbits and haven't been chasing times (unlike Cain).
Hasay was good for at least 9:45 in high school. I have no idea what Baxter can do. She just doesn't race enough on the track and I don't know why.
with her endurance baxter could easily run under 20 minutes for 6k - would likely beat D'Agostino or maybe even the best Africans if given a chance, certainly she would win world XC. She was just jogging that race anyway, she could go at least a minute faster if really pushed. Cain is nothing compared to Baxter, she is just a track runner, while Baxter is better at a "real" sport - cross-country. Track is for wimps and sissies. There should be XC ALL year, not this stupid track stuff - who wants to run around a stupid oval over and over again anyway.
Looking beastly. Hopefully Cain does NXN this year.

You cannot compare Mary Cain nor Sarah Baxter to Jordan at such a young age. They both have such a long, long, long, way to go. I'm sure if you would ask Jordan she would say the same. But, then again, Jordan just turned the sprite young age of 22! She has a long way to go too! Hopefully these gals will all be racing each other and will represent our USA future to come.
Simi Valley won the team competition, with 2 freshman as the 3rd and 5th team scorers. I would say Sarah has leadership skills along with her running talent.

Cain ran 15:45.46 for 5k (in a controlled effort, though who knows how much faster - if any faster - she could have gone if she wasn't just aiming for the qualifying standard).
What's that worth for a 3 mile on the track? About a 15:10 (probably in the 15:07-15:12 range).
So you're talking 5 seconds for a 15:15, or 10 seconds for a 15:20. And if she was capable of better than a 15:45, you're getting even more wiggle-room for her to sneak under those marks.
It's not dreaming to think she can run faster than Baxter for 3 miles, whether it's cross country or not. She is THAT fast on the track, and going from rubber to grass will slow you down some, it won't be drastic. And it's not like that course is hilly or has many sharp turns, and if it's 3.01 miles by GPS it's probably anywhere from 2.98-3.01 if one were to wheel it.
It's a flat/fast 3 mile course. Of course Cain can run a ridiculous time on it - it's a grass track!

Biggest story of the meet, IMO. Simi Valley is looking really strong right now. Are they the favorites to end the streaks of New York and Fayetteville-Manlius?
