Grabbing silver was indeed further evidence that Matthew Centrowitz is one of the most saavy championship racers in American history. Compare his championship track record to a guy like Alan Webb who has run 1:43/3:30/3:46. In 2007, Alan Webb went into the WCs ranked #1. Dude was on fire. He could have won gold. He SHOULD have at least won a medal. But instead, he did what Alan Webb always did. Buckled under the pressure. Matthew Centrowitz has ice in his veins and competes like he's supposed to be there.

Ice in his veins? How quickly you band wagoners forget: dfl in London mike...dropped out like a kitty in Monaco with 250 to go...that's NOT ice in your veins. It's great to see an American do well on the international stage- agreed. Couldn't happen to a worse prick, unfortunately.

You're argument doesn't hold water. you could make that case for most every elite runner. Centrowitz runs smart races. He races within his ability. He knows trying to go out and lead in 55/1:52 is not going to be successful for him at this point. At some point, I do believe he will have a breakthrough season and challenge/break Webb's AR Mile record.
Over the 3 championship seasons he is the most consistent 1500 runner in the world

In the last 3 years he's won an NCAA title, 2 USA titles, bronze and silver on the world stage, nearly took bronze in the OG's.
Name a young USA athlete who's done that in the last 30 years in the 1500?
Do you understand the concept of working your way up the ladder?
He knows he's a young 3:32 guy, not a young 3:27 guy, like Kiprop. He's working on it.
For this early in his career, few American men have done close to this in ages.

Judging by this picture, the Centro Nation has expanded to "Centro World."
certainly not up there with the fastest american middle distance runners ever, but obviously Centro is a hell of a racer in championship races.
congrats to Centro....excellent racing. doesn't make him a nice guy--indeed he can be a bit "harsh" to say the least. and I do find it funny that he does his daily training in Asics even though he gets a huge chunk of change from Nike--think Nike would just get an Asics shoe and slap a swoosh on it. nonetheless his consistency has been impressive the last few years.

As I always say, running is a tough, cruel sport. Injuries denied Kiprop gold last year. Where is Nick Willis anymore?

Of course we hope that he continues to improve and gets there.
I prefer to just hope, and watch, and be surprised and happy.
In the last 5 years USA distance and mid distance has been medaling more than any time in half a century or more.

Manzano is better. He has an olympic medal. World championship gold is like placing 4th in the olympics.

Because everyone is good, that's why he doesn't have a gold medal. Look at the intros for that race, everyone was 3:35 or under, half were under 3:33 -- everyone is good, it's a big world out there. Step outside your local fun run, please. Kiprop is a better, more talented runner than Centro, probably always will be.
Look at UO's history of distance running, right now Centro has most of them beat when it comes to international medals. Cruz has a gold, right? Not sure his WC status -- I'll look it up. Dellinger has a bronze in the Olympics.
Centrowitz is a great racer, it's fun to watch him. If that makes me a "fanboy" so be it. It's better than getting trounced at each WC's and Olympics (I like Manzano, too). The world has great racers and Centro is one of them. How is he "massively overrated"?
