He is getting too old to do anything in the 400. I agree with his speed and endurance. In his prime he could have won a medal(at least Bronze) at a major. I remember the Swedish runner who moved up went from a semi final guy(when it meant more) and became a finalist in the quarter. He had more basic talent than this guy.

I heard (not on letsrun but by people who were his teammates) that he'd regularly skip practice when he was at Arkansas. They never did anything about it because even half-@ssing it he could win nationals. Sounded like he did as little as he could get away with. Big spender too. He always had his hummer parked right outside the indoor track.

What a waste.

I just assumed he was getting older and slowing down. His PB 19.65 is a fine time. Spearmon is unlucky with losing medals at major champs as well. Didn't he get his Olympic silver pulled in 2008 along with Martina for some line bs? Crawford gave his then bronze to Martina, I doubt Dix gave his Silver to Spearmon though.

If Bolt, Blake and Gay hadn't come along, wouldn't Spearmon be the fastest at 200m for the last decade? There's also Dix and Carter (another rise and fall) in there once or twice. I find it hard to think he could train harder to beat 19.65, maybe he could run rounds better though in champs with more training?

I'm amazed how SAFP now seems to be dominating, getting out infront and not being hauled down by anyone. She has really gained Speed Endurance which she did not have last year or before that when she didn't do 200s (but it must have been OK to get 10.78!)

Oh yeah and MJ is good at dishing out the criticism where it is needed. He maximised his own ability and hates to see others waste theirs. He ripped into the selection for UK 4x4 which lost us a chance of a medal. He said he had previously represented Michael Bingham and dropped him cos he wasn't fulfilling his potential! So why did UKA put him in for the final when he didn't feel in good shape, and the heats guy did a 44.8 and wanted to do the final! Would have put us right there for medals and not boxed in on the last leg. I remember MJ being critical of Mark Lewis-Francis as well, believing he was not fulfilling his potential with good training (it's true, he tailed off after reaching his peak early, and was thought to not train as good as he could). I find that with MJ if he criticises, it's usually merited.
