I mean, whether he's right or not, that's not at all what he said. He said heigh (longer lever) WITH the same turnover rate as a shorter sprinter. So what he's arguing is that Bolt would be the equivalent of a baseball player somehow able to swing a longer bat at the SAME speed as a shorter one, which is a physical anomaly and therefore "proves" his superiority at the event.

Again not saying I think that's a very good explanation, but your wise-ass comment shows a certain lack of comprehension.

False - you totally miss the point. The point is that there is an optimum bat length for hitting power, and an optimum leg length for sprinting 100m. Deviations from the normal range from optimum is not a reason to be good.

"there has never been a tall sprinter" is not true. There are many - just none that are as tall as bolt and fast. There has never been a world class 100lb sumo wrestler either.

You fail at engineering and at statistics. Don't try to weigh in on things you don't understand, leave that to rojo.

How does Bolt have the same turnover of smaller sprinters with those long legs?

Drugs. Supplements. Stimulants. PEDs. Whatever you want to call it.

His large frame gives him a mechanical advantage. Long levers. Fewer steps to finish the race. The drugs give him the physiological ability to take advantage of his frame.

Let me get this straight?

Some of you are arguing that having a greater stride length while also having a superb stride rate are not what makes Bolt fast? You have to be kidding right?

He is fast because for whatever reason he has great turn over and has a fairly large stride length for a sprinter, while this is slightly uncommon it is not unheard of as there have been other tall sprinters. What makes him really really fast is that he can accelerate much better than the other tall sprinters that have come along. If he does this clean or not is a question. But that is why he is faster, so in that sense he is an outlier.

This argument only works if the "smaller sprinters" are clean. The fact that they're doped too is why he's an outlier.

Bolt's 19.19 is a crazy outlier! It's just in his physiology. Wait, then Blake ran 19.26. Another guy from the same small country, no, the same training group ... also a crazy outlier? But he's short. Typical sprinter build. How did HE do it?

Couldn't it be that they are on the same PEDs?

Which is directly proportional to your height. A taller person can cover more ground with each step with all their muscles and joints at the same angles.

No it is not. Where do you people get this stuff from? Stride length is PURELY how hard you push off the ground. Has nothing to do with height or leg length. Otherwise, it'd be impossible for short people to jump higher than tall people.

He is not as much of an outlier BECAUSE he has a typical sprinter build (and because he's slower). Pay attention here.

Could be, but somehow he got caught so I wouldn't assume they were the same.

And how hard you naturally push off the ground is directly proportional to height. Tall people HAVE to push harder off the ground because they have bigger bodies they need to keep in balance. That's why taller people normally have a slower cadence.

No it is not. How hard you push off the ground is a product of training. And no tall people don't necessarily have bigger bodies. You can be short and heavy and have a longer stride length than a tall lightweight person. Tall people don't normally have a slower cadence. That's a stat that you made up in your head.

Just admit that you're wrong or trolling.

The brojos come off as teenage fanboys when it comes to Bolt.

It's gonna be embarrassing for them once he either:

-tests positive.

-the Jamaican house of cards crumbles after Bolt retires - even without a + test result it's heavily implied he doped (think FloJo, the Chinese, East Germans, etc).

Watching people scramble and flail to defend Bolt amidst all these other positive tests is both hilarious and sad.

Yes they do. Watch Jason Hartman run next to Lelisa Desisa. I thought this was obvious.

Of course having longer legs (longer stride length) makes you faster, IF you can finish your strides in the same amount of time as the ones with shorter legs. Now that's a big IF, but not impossible. Some sprinters have an anatomy/muscle made-up that allows them to generate the same force/speed as others in less time.

An optimum leg-length range (for normal range of muscle anatomies) is not valid if somebody has an exceptional anatomy otherwise regarding muscle contraction.

An extra-long bat would be great, IF you manage to generate the same bat speed. Most players can not, which causes there to be a small range of bat sizes that seems optimal.

What SVR said in his post was perfectly valid, so your saying he 'fails at engineering' and not understanding of the subject matter is not only rude, but you're making a joke off yourself.

By the way, Carl Lewis was also quite tall for a sprinter (6'2) but generated remarkable turnover as well (yes I know he doped).

By the way, apparently Usain Bolt's turnover is not higher than others, but he manages to generate contact pressure of the ground in a shorter duration, which means his contact time with the ground is shorter than opponents.

I still assume Bolt is doping though...but his anatomy does make him an exceptional sprinter, doped up or not.

Oh, and the Puma ad revenue is just icing on the cake. The brojos are about as trustworthy and reliable as a Fox News pundit.
