You are not very bright. Gebremeskel, Alamirew, Farah and possibly Gebrhiwet would destroy Lagat in a kick. That "38 year old man" would have destroyed them at one time. Time marches on, and Lagat cannot kick with them, and even if he could kick with Gebrhiwet, he cannot stay with him. Lagat knows this, but why not try anyway? Galen has no chance to kick with Farah, Alamirew and a fit Gebremeskel, and of course he cannot stay with Gebrhiwet.
Gebrhiwet has the ability to eventually run under 26:30. Gebrhiwet has more balls than Galen would know what to do with, and I am not being unfair. You shall see.

But that is just it. Rupp WILL show up at the starting line at the World Championships healthy and in peak form. With East African runners you frankly don't know. Rupp is at a level where if the East African athletes are injured or otherwise stale in their conditioning, Rupp will beat all of them as he did in London.
In other words, its the East Africans to lose to Rupp. But its a very decent chance they will lose.

Gebremeskel needs to get his stuff together. So far the dude that ran 55 to close 12:46 has been entirely absent this season. Hopefully we will see a nice 10000 out of him on Thursday.

the difference there is US Champs the last mile was fast i.e. 4 or 5 seconds under for top guys. i believe farah's race was just a fast last lap.
We basically still have no clue who will represent Kenya and Ethiopia at 5k and 10k in Moscow. Except Jeilan and Isiah Koech because of the wildcards.
Take a look at the 2013 lists. There has essentially only been one fast race at 5k (Rome) and one fast race at 10k (Eugene).
At least wait until you know who Rupp will face until you write off his chances.

Though it is the same point in the season for both Lagat and Rupp, it's still pretty early. With worlds multiple weeks away, you can be sure that AlSal will have Rupp doing lots of speedwork, in addition to racing at shorter distances.

Rupp lost a mile to Bernard Lagat, the 2nd fastest 1500 runner in history who apparently doesn't age, as he is still a world champion contester at 38. It could also be noted that Rupp had already run the 10k prior to the 5k (we all know how well that went for his 5k kick at the olympics last year). You also seem to forget that Bekele still exists and has been relatively quiet with his racing this year, possibly sacrificing frequent races for better training. With good training and health, the king of 10k kicking would annihilate the Gebs, Rupp, Farah, Jelian, and anyone else that would think about challenging him. Unhealthy Bekele will lead to Rupp, Farah, and Jeilan medaling. Healthy Bekele moves somebody out as he dominates the field. Either way, I think Rupp will be one of the 3.

I agree that there is no reason to bash our runners, but Galen Rupp is not the USA's best distance runner. Bernard Lagat is.
Race predictions the week of the event is cool but to say nearly 2 months before a race that a strong contender has almost zero chances to medal is pure speculation and negative thinking. Rupp is a contender. Not a favorite. Not a long shot. Personally I don't care if he medals or not. I would prefer a big PR. A PR would boost his chances of medalling since his PR is already one of the best in the world. But I would be just fine with a PR and not placing. Of course its unlikely a world championship race will be fast as opposed to strategic, but one can hope.
