Only if you were comparing it to a single race in Japan. If you did the same and got together all the Japanese college guys in a half-marathon it would not even be close. Depth in Japan far, far exceeds the U.S.

Correct. If the start and finish are separated by more than 30% of the race distance, neutral windage (I assume +1m limit) must be proven for the results to be record quality.

The Grandma's full and the Bjorklund half can be certified for national and international records, IF it can be shown there was no wind advantage.

The half course can be legal, it is a question of the wind. It may have been too windy, in the wrong direction, today.

If your throw 50 guys that have PR's of 66min or faster run a point to point race, its going to be fast. Perfect temp and good competition. Wind was not really a factor.

considering Mo's reputation of how he suddenly dropped nearly 5min from his 1/2 pb, I don't think meb prob felt bad one bit. what a shame for meb, great race for positions 2-xxxxx

Beardsley's record shouldn't have lasted this long. True, the course he ran was 150 yards long and if it had been the correct distance his time would have been a new American record, the fact is that 2:09:37 (or even a corrected 2:09:13) is not really a world class time today.

Global warming is making June marathons more difficult. If a 2:05 guy like Worku couldn't come close in today's decent conditions, Beardsley's record might last for a lot longer.

I wonder how many runners had a conflict between the track national championships in Iowa and the USA half marathon championships in Duluth.

I think the poster was thinking of the 66th Kagawa Marugame International Half Marathon in Kagawa on Feb. 5, 2012. 62 guys ran 1:03:30 or better, but only 54 of them were Japanese.

Last month was the 3rd warmest May on record since record keeping began in 1880. It was also the 339th consecutive month where the average global temperature was above the 20th century average. If you are 28 years old or younger you have never lived in a month that was colder than normal.
