Erdman was blown away by Hasay on the last lap, so clearly the latter was stronger. Hasay went with the braid, so clearly by my reckoning Salazar signed her for the performance and she did great here, a smart race. But the early pace was quite a bit too fast for her in this heat, indeed too fast for her in perfect conditions.

As for the comment about this being a slow, tactical race, it was slow by international (=Ethiopian/Kenyan) standards but certainly not tactical. Too bad about Goucher going for the win and blowing up. She has heart but at this stage should have been more cautious and taken more risks at world's, not a qualifying race. She could still make the team if she runs an A qualifier and neither Hasay, nor Erdman runs the B, right? Then it would be Flanagan, Hastings, and Goucher?

Yes, Flanagan was. If you watched the race you know the heat slowed her down. Her face was quite red for much of the race. She did great, despite the heat.

Kara has the "B" standard, so if Hasay and Erdmann miss, she is in.

She kept looking back and waiting for Hasay. Had she been on her own I bet she would have run somewhat faster. Idk if she can run 31:45, but definitely under 32 minutes.

I don't suppose the fact that Hasay wound up decisively beating Erdmann factors into your analysis in any way?

It's about finishing ahead of the other runner, not how good a runner looks in the middle of the race nor how many times they look back. Last night Hasay was clearly the faster runner of the two. End of story.

Oh, and Flanagan killed it; this should not be forgotten.

Had Erdmann been 20 seconds ahead then Hasay's 6 second kick wouldn't have put her ahead.

This is very simple mathematics.

Erdmann + 20 - 6 Hasay = 14+ Erdmann
