i mean the kid had a bad year so lets not all jump on his back

people can have bad training cycles for a number of reasons, running related or not

this season is a little disappointing as we were all hoping he would come into his own and such, but it's really his first down season after a string of highly successful ones

so lets call it a bad year and see how the next training cycle comes along after he has a chance to rest, clear his head and decompress

why doesn't he train with gags' group, they're not that far from his home.

Andrews is an idiot. Just watch his Flotrack "Driven" episodes. He's not eve working hard!

Everyone's too quick to tell people to change coaches. The guy he's with now coached him to NCAA champion, 3:34 1500, 1:44 800, Penn Relays champ. Look at our other top guys, and for the most part they have rarely changed coaches -- you don't want to be moving around to different training philosophies all the time. He just needs to sit down w/Vig and figure out what went wrong.

Looks like a pretty good parallel to Cabral. Thrive in a competitive collegiate environment, struggle by yourself.

I dont think anyone here is qualified to say if Robby is working hard or not, so what if hes had a bad season, nobody really knows whats going on in his life right now, there shouldnt even be a thread about this if people are just gunna bash the kid. Maby he just needs a break from the sport to clear his head, who knows, running isn't everything people, get over yourselves.

this season should be a nice wakeup call. he's still young, and it's better to have a season like this than to always be just barely outside the top 3 because you are dedicated 98%. he seems to have displayed a level more like 85% this season.

hopefully he will go 100% for next season and we'll see a much more trim and fit young man who actually is willing to make the sacrifices for success at the international level.

it's not an easy lifestyle. to put it in perspective, there are about 525,600 minutes in a year. unless he absolutely enjoys the entire process, he's basically required to make sacrifices for 525,540 minutes so that those other 60 minutes of racing are worth it. that takes a hell of a lot more discipline than most of us have...especially at 22!

it's unfathomable for most people.

Its the coaching thats the problem. Its the environment. Its him being in Jersey with his family and hs friends. He should be living in a house with other pros that can push him to a better lifestyle and push him in training.

I heard that moving into a house with other pros is in the plan in the near future. I believe a moving truck was even called to move the stuff from the east coast.

This could be it. I get the sense that maybe Robbie Andrews is ballin out and visiting a lot with family and friends in NJ. This may not be the best environment for him. The getting paid by Adidas as a pro and living in hometown and hanging out with former high school friends may not be the best place to really ignite the fire in him mentally. That's pure speculation of course, but a change of environment where he's away from former HS buds might be a good thing. If he were back at UVA at leAst he'd be training alongside an excellent D1 program. Obviously Princeton where he is Is an excellent program too but it may be too tempting for him, being NJ, for him to go back to his high school lifestyle and chill too much with homies he knew from HS, when he should be focused 110% on being a pro athlete.

having a PR of 144 and running 146 at USA champs would be a bad year.

having a PR of 144 and running 150 at USA champs is an absolute train wreck.

Why would his "homies" still be in NJ? So, he went away to college an his classmates stayed in town? Come on! Maybe some friends are back for the summer but his friends should be starting their jr an sr yrs. Robbie might be able to hang out but everyone else is working summer jobs.

lol you idiot not everyone goes to a 4 year college... hear of community college? hear of being a bum that doesn't go to school and makes $8 an hour at walmart?

I'm 100% sure Andrews isn't going back to UVA. I think the assumption that his family/friends is the problem is incorrect. Some people have trouble mentally breaking through the success ceiling. Going pro is different. It's a different identity. It's requires a different way of coping and living. Unless those fears are met with tools, people usually don't finish.

Your a tool. I find it hard to believe that Robbie's best friends from HS. (Your assignment is to look up the hs, grad rate and % who go on to a 4 yr college) are working at Walmart for $8 dollars an hr. LOL maybe the pot heads but a guy who got into UVA wasn't hanging with those kids and isn't at home partying with the townies.
