I think most know by now that you have to filter out the crap to get to the nuggets of good stuff, even the kids know this. I'm not sure kids care about what people say on these kind of sites. Sorry you are upset and want to protect the kid but I don't think most need it because kids know the kind of world they are living in better than us older folks do when it comes to socializing via message boards. Many have moved away from this site for meaningful dialogue.

Because high school athletes are never taught how to run the 800. Arroyo's splits were bad too.
When they stop splitting everyone into sprints and distance, and then forcing the best of each to run multiple events every week for points, someone can focus on the 800 and break the weak prep AR.
I am not his coach. I just saw the link for the video and that is what brought me to this site. After seeing the ridiculous posts on here I had to chime in. I wish I had a 1:48 800 runner on my high school team! This kid ran a fearless race and obviously did some sick training to get where he is!

I am impressed with this young man. He doesn't come from a populated area. There is not much competition for him, and I suspect he has done considerably training on his own.
Kudos to the coach and the kid.
I think ECU is a great choice for someone from Eastern North Carolina. His adjustment issues will likely only be minor.

Wow, that is a massive performance. Based on his converted 400 time (from HT 47.7) he should be good for about a 1:46.7, which makes sense on a 1:48.01 with 1.8 second faster closing lap. He should have tried to get into the big boys meet this week, where he probably could've been pulled to a HS record and gotten some experience.

It really is. I'm no runner, or runner aficionado, but I am a classmate (Class of 2013! Woo!) of John's. He gives it all he's got every day, and it's near impossible to hang out with him on weekends because he's ALWAYS running.
I come here offering praise because he's my friend, yes. He's a personal friend who has accomplished something truly remarkable with his high school career - more than I can say for myself! So, ECU or not, he'll keep at it because he loves the sport and he loves to run. He's done more than can be conceived from a small town school down here in Carteret County. I don't doubt that he can push himself further in a lesser-known University.
it's getting zero press, but this is probably the biggest single performance of the year for HS boys given the splits. it's more impressive than Arroyo's 800 that was slightly faster.
it helps to go to a school with history and other fast guys, but you can forge yourself into something great if you are special. all it takes is talent, persistence and patience. the cream ALWAYS rises to the top.
My name is Joseph and I have ran Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track with John Crossley the past couple of years. I am completely shocked by the things i have read in this post. John is the most dedicated runner I know. I have watched him run himself into the ground at every practice the last couple of months preparing for States and Nationals. He has been training so hard that we haven't had a single person on our team to push him during practice. He has had two sprinters running with him at once, on his 400 repeats they would sprint 200s beside him just so he could have some competition. I must say that John's success is solely a result of his hard work and dedication. He hasn't taken more than 4-5 days of break since his Sophomore year!! how many people can say that? This talk of doping is just ridiculous, don't be upset that you or your athletes aren't as dedicated as John and therefor don't have the results he has. I must say it's been an honor to run beside John on and off the track, and i'm looking forward to following his career.
