After indoors she took two weeks off and then two weeks easy. This was her third race outdoors and will race only once more, at Pre, before the Trials. Where is that thread about how Salazar isn't helping her? Whoever stated such nonsense needs to reorient himself to a reality or two.

She should get a contract before USA's... She's already a US champ at 1500m and being this young/good is guaranteed to bring in lots of publiciy for a few years as the highschool phenom (and then former highshool phenom). This would save her parent a lot of money on AlSal too.

If you were 20 seconds faster than the next fastest girl in the country wouldn't you want to see what you were capable of in a race against equal competition.

I thought Jordan Hasay ran a 4:14.5 as the next fastes girl not named Mary Cain
So where does this run stack up in comparison to boy's high school records and times. Think we have to say a the least, that her times are equivalent to sub 4 milers for HS boys. Real question is how do they compare to Jim Ryun and Alan Webb. At the time I believe Ryun had the fastest American mile time even though he was in high school - Mary Cain cannot obviously say that however there aren't too many Americans who can beat her in the 1500 right now. Was Alan Webb's 3:53 the fastest American mile even though he was in hs?
What is as impressive as her times is the fact that every race she hits a homerun. She is on every race. Let us hope she stays healthy and does not race too much, she is a lot of fun to watch.
If she stays humble and keeps things in perspective the sky is the limit for her.
She will break 2 minutes in the 800m and 4 minutes in the 1500m while in HS which is off the charts.

Does this mean she could run 9:00 for 3200m?
While this made me laugh, I decided to take a look at Eddy Lee's progression. It took him 2 and a half years to go from 4:16 to 3:59, running 4:10 the next year, and 4:01 the year after. Since we're almost 2 years since Cain ran her 4:17 (who also had a 6 second improvement into the next year), if she weren't a girl, one would expect the kind of progression she's had so far. It probably helps that she's 5'7" and doesn't run like Goucher.I really hope she eventually breaks 3:50. Gosh that'd be awesome, even if completely unrealistic.

it was even more impressive in the manner she did it. ran at the pointy end of the race first few laps, then looked to be going through a bit of a rough patch, fading a bit, but at about 250m-300m to go she came back to life and had she not had to go wide in lane 3/4 would have likely taken it.
The idea should be to win championships, not just record
fast times.

Maybe they changed them this year, but the IAAF scoring tables always said in the introduction that they did not compare mens' and womens' times.
No. That's crazy talk. She is not at that level yet, especially as a 800/1500 type. I'd say she could run 9:20 for the 3200 if pressed, but not much faster than that.

Agreed, she's broken a HS record in all of her races this year, but the Re:Run 800 which wouldn't have counted anyway. Cain is clutch.
A list of all time best at 2 mile.
I personally think this is a more impressive time than Webb's race.
When all is said and done, the girls still run a lot slower than the boys.

The Salazar interview on Flotrack is interesting. He says she runs a lot faster than her workouts.
